Job Description

The BD&L Director will build relationships and expertise at the cutting edge of the science, and drive opportunities to enhance top line revenue growth and profitability for AAA through researching, structuring, negotiating, obtaining approval, closing, and managing company/product acquisition and/or licensing deals. This includes leading the development of full business cases for selected target identification, evaluation, generation, valuation, and screening. The BD&L Director will be responsible for leading negotiation, and closing the deal with collaboration and integration of global functions. The BD&L Director will have a strong understanding of the external and competitive market while building partnerships with the nuclear medicine, biotech and pharma industry. Targets will include not only early to late stage assets, but also technologies, platforms, production capabilities, material sources etc. The BD&L Director will build and maintain close working relationships with internal stakeholders to close any existing gaps and to ensure global alignment across the organization in strategy, process and execution of BD&L opportunities. The BD&L director should establish a robust reputation for AAA in BD and increase AAA visibility as a partner-of-choice for Radio pharmacies around the world. Among others, BD&L areas of focus should include:
  • Boosting AAA future mid-term commercial opportunities
  • Maintaining close proximity to the market allowing effective scouting and being close to potential targets
  • Changing business development focus with alliances and partnerships in emerging therapeutic areas aligned with the company’s growth strategy
  • Strengthening communications, collaboration and flexibility of resources across Global functions and the countries
Major Accountabilities:

The Global BD Director is the key point of contact between AAA and third parties to search, scout and manage BD transactions.
  • Search, identify and evaluate opportunities for merger and/or acquisition for areas of unmet need; in-license drugs and technologies that fit with AAA strategy; prepare and present analysis of these opportunities to the Global Head of BD&L and appropriate Committees
  • Lead negotiations/transactions to deliver on all types of BD&L activities inclusive of in-licensing, out-licensing, and regional BD&L deals, in close collaboration with Legal and the appropriate Novartis Corporate functions
  • Monitor promising AAA assets through:
∗ conference/meeting coverage

∗ networking with biotech

∗ top leaders and scientists in academic institutions

∗ venture capital firms

∗ individual investigators and accelerators
  • Develop and negotiate term sheets to maximize value while minimizing risk; coordinate the preparation of analysis and test the sensitivity of deal economics to variances in key assumptions; provide recommendations to senior management
  • Ensure that the company has knowledge of changes in technology, the marketplace and other factors that may influence business development and attainment of company strategy
  • Prepare necessary presentations & documentation for approval of potential deals through various management approval boards
  • Live the values of AAA, with a strong work ethic, a business edge and a high degree of energy and strong ethics
  • Compliance: Ensure that all aspects of BD&L activities are in compliance with AAA policies and standards. Comply with all AAA SOP’s laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of AAA

Minimum Requirements
  • University degree (medical, bioscience or business background preferred)
  • MBA – will be considered as an asset
  • Fluent English (spoken, writen, comprehension) required
  • Minimum of 10 years industry experience, including at least 5 years in Business Development
  • Proven track record in successfully closing transactions (deal sheet requested)
  • Ability to build long term relation ship with partners
  • Proven proficiencies with a wide range of data/information: scientific/clinical, legal/regulatory, business, financial and market analytics
  • Strong track record in leveraging and maximizing matrix environment (local-global)
  • Proven track record in risk management
  • Demonstrable abilities to translate complex terms into Term Sheet, contracts and conditions into strategic and operational elements for both internal and external parties.
Competency/Skills:

The BD&L Director will be a highly experienced business development professional with an outstanding track record of successful deal completion in therapeutics, with a strong preference for deals in oncology, nuclear medicine and/or radiopharmaceuticals. Candidates will be strong scouts who understand the space in which AAA operates and who have a visionary outlook that goes beyond the present and looks further into the future, to build a strong pipeline of theragnostics / therapeutics for the company.
