Job Description

We are seeking an experienced counsel to serve as Associate Director Legal and Compliance, International, located at the Company’s international headquarters in Zug, Switzerland. While there is a strong preference for Zug, other locations within Europe will be considered.

This role will advice Deciphera’s international affiliates and partners with Deciphera’s local leadership teams and key US stakeholders to advance business activities and advice on key legal risks outside of the U.S., with a strong focus on Europe. Core tasks will include the support of Medical Affairs and Commercial teams, promotional material review, market access advice and supply matters. Together with the Head of Legal and Compliance International, the role will manage Deciphera’s Compliance Program in the International Region from international to local policy development, training and monitoring as well as anti-corruption and anti-bribery policy development and implementation in close collaboration with Deciphera’s US Compliance Team. This role also offers the opportunity to advice on Deciphera’s data privacy compliance.

We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative life sciences attorney who wants to contribute to the growth of a thriving, fast-paced biotech, supporting Deciphera’s first product in Europe. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally across the Company and countries by and contribute to important strategic initiatives as well as operational matters. In this role you will also get exposure to Europe-based G&A advisory work such as employment law, corporate matters and various types of contracts. This will be a high influence and high growth position as Deciphera builds out its regional and international footprint.

This position will report directly to the VP, Head of Legal and Compliance, International.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage all legal activities and advice on key legal risks in designated European countries where Deciphera has a presence.
  • Provide on-going legal advice on laws, regulations and guidelines related to Deciphera business internationally, including to support European commercialization, and in collaboration with key US stakeholders as necessary.
  • Ensure the drafting, review, negotiation, execution, and archiving of a wide variety of agreements to support international activities, including medical affairs and commercial agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Collaborate with commercial, medical, market access, patient advocacy teams, as well as local senior management team members, on strategic efforts for advancing local business, providing legal and compliance advice and support.
  • Serve as expert on EU healthcare compliance laws and regulations, including anti-bribery/anti-corruption and GDPR.
  • Review promotional, marketing, and medical materials to be disseminated in the international region.
  • Identify legal risks and provide ongoing legal advice on laws, regulations and guidelines related to the commercialization of Deciphera’s products in the international region.
  • Develop, initiate, maintain and revise local policies.
  • Works closely with the U.S. Compliance function in alignment with the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics and applicable laws and regulations when doing business in the international markets, with the focus on legal healthcare compliance, including interactions with HCPs and HCOs.
  • Provide legal and compliance trainings and communications across the region.
  • Retain and manage foreign legal counsel to ensure that the legal needs of the business operations are met, ensuring both a high level of work product quality while also implementing cost-savings initiatives, managing budgets and as well as performing conflict of interest checks.
Qualifications
  • Law degree of one of the EU Member States preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience handling legal matters in an in-house role and/or top tier life science law firm
  • Proficiency in English and one other European language is desirable
  • Deep knowledge of international, European and local laws and regulations as well as industry standards and healthcare compliance regulations
  • Knowledge and experience with privacy and data privacy laws in Europe
  • Strong technical/analytical skills
  • A practical, business-oriented approach to identifying and solving business and compliance problems with the ability to act with urgency and passion
  • Willingness to pitch-in and help on legal projects across the organization
  • Excellent research, writing, negotiation, counselling, and communications skills and a positive client service orientation
  • Ability to work independently, as a team member, and also as a member of local leadership teams
  • Ability to value the benefits of collaboration
  • Expertise in European healthcare law compliance as well as supporting commercial and medical in European activities
  • Ability to balance compliance with the competing demands of the business

  • This role may require to travel to Deciphera’s affiliates and/or US headquarters.
