Our Associate Research Scientist will perform research to generate analytical data and investigate new technologies by using practical application of scientific theories. This individual will assure that programs meet scientific objectives which are aligned with customer needs and will build relationships with industry/technology key opinion leaders.

This position is located in Concord, Ontario. Relocation Assistance Available!

Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities, Authorities and Required Interactions:
  • Defines and tests novel mass spectrometry hardware to enable customer workflows.
  • Defines experimental risks and executes different methodologies to verify or validate different aspects of hardware/software under the guidance of more senior scientists.
  • Develops and tests models to support theoretical predictions.
  • Defines improvements and innovations for hardware related improvements in ion sources, compound coverage, instrument sensitivity and detection limits.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external collaborators.
  • Understands the link between project goals and company strategy.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities for product improvement within a defined research area.
  • Contributes to on-time delivery of different research projects to either commercial or pre-commercial groups.
  • Translates development or scientific risks into a tangible research plan.
  • Reports research findings to project teams and the research group.
  • Presents research findings at scientific conferences
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Higher level Science degree in a related field such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry etc, Ph.D. preferred
  • Broad background and knowledge of ion sources, ion movement, detection limit improvements and theoretical aspects of mass spectrometry
  • Experience with hardware design and testing to improve mass spectrometry detection limits, sample throughput, ion source sampling efficiency, and compound coverage. LC/MS workflows strongly preferred.
  • Experience with various sample introduction techniques and atmosphere to vacuum interface designs.
  • Proven publication record within the field related to hardware design or workflow testing
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Proven team player, with strong collaboration skills
  • Excellent time-management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with little supervision
