Part of Leonardo (through its Helicopter division), Kopter is set to become a Centre of Excellence for new light helicopters and an incubator of new technologies; also contributing to the development of new hybrid and electrical propulsion systems. The single-engine, turbine-powered AW09 now under development will outperform its peers with increased modularity, modern electronic systems, and a larger cabin and cargo hold. The AW09 delivers latest safety standards, more performance and comfort at low operating costs. Kopter’s 320 talented team members are primarily based near Zurich, Switzerland – with corporate/engineering offices at Wetzikon, and the production facilities in the towns of Mollis and Näfels.

Your Responsibilities

The Avionics Lead Engineer is responsible to:

► Lead complex development project with avionics strategic suppliers.

► Design the sub-system assigned.

► Advise on technical and certification risks based on experience.

► Liaise with the suppliers during the development projects.

► Perform laboratory, ground testing.

► Support flight testing.

Tasks

► Leads complex development project with avionics strategic suppliers.

► Performs architectural exploration.

► Generates engineering data with respect to accuracy and detail that is commensurate with experience level.

► Coordinates directly with other company departments to ensure project is completed as defined and on schedule.

► Supports technical meetings (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) as required.

► Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

► Seeks to identify possible problems presented in applicable projects that may cause a delay or exceed budget. Contributes to finding appropriate solutions.

► Considers and evaluates alternatives accounting for similar metrics.

► Develops (or revises) content for the functional description document, system requirements data, interface description document and design verification test procedures.

► Collects data and performs standard analysis of data, identifying findings as appropriate.

Conducts technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and other analyses.

► Ability to perform systems activities on a project, recommend process and product improvements.

► Conducts engineering processes using standard work, including verification and qualification procedures.

► Performs analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modelling, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

► Creates avionics substantiation and compliance data together with company CVEs.

► Provides assistance to system engineers for the creation of avionics substantiation and compliance data.

► Performs systems bench testing, problem report investigation/testing and take action to resolve test discrepancies.

Competencies

Your qualifications

► University Degree or equivalent in electrical or aerospace engineering.

► Familiarity with EASA and/or FAA certification requirements.

► Familiarity with environmental qualification DO-160 is required.

► Familiarity with airborne software and hardware development DO-178 and DO-254.

► Quick learner with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

► Ability to work as part of a multinational team.

Experience

► 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in avionics developments for fixed or rotary wings platforms.

► Relevant experience of development and integration of avionics systems, such as electronic displays, navigation, communication and utilities systems, good background in aircraft electrical power systems.

► Experience in aircraft/equipment certification.
