We are looking to hire an Analyst to join our TGP Back Office team based in Geneva.

Job Description:
As part of the Global Risk Control Organisation, the Back Office team is an integral part of the trading floor based in Geneva and is also supporting the trading functions in Houston and Singapore. Key responsibilities include deal confirmations, position validation, invoicing, payments and contract management. These processes are key to the commerciality of deals transacted by the Front Office teams. Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy are essential skills in an environment where an error can have both financial and reputational ramifications. Strong drive to improve processes and systems is necessary alongside good IT skills (excel/VBA/Python). You may be expected to develop new tools to secure and optimize the process and build new reports adapted to the business evolutions.

Context and environment

What you will do
  • Manage a portfolio of trading counterparts
  • Ensure that accurate trading information is represented within our ‘in-house’ trading system, (the BOOK) by confirming deals with counterparts and brokers on a daily basis
  • Daily reconciliation on open positions and deal transactions on exchanges & clearers
  • Send invoices to counterparts within industry or contractual deadlines
  • Submit payment instructions to finance in a timely manner to comply with contractual payment dates
  • Reconcile counterpart/pipeline invoices against the BOOK
  • Effective communications with numerous internal and external parties to ensure timely resolutions to problems and queries
  • Contribute to the overall team responsibilities and goals including assisting with general Back Office duties including emailing, archiving and filing when needed
  • Participate in team and individual projects delegated by the Global Back Office Manager
  • Support, identify, and assist in implement of process & systems improvement, from system testing and implementations to desk level process
  • Identify and communicate operational risk, define risk mitigating measures and priorities
Context and environment:

The fast paced trading environment requires the jobholder to be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. The position requires strong communication skills within the team, externally and with other departments within the organisation. Both industry and contractual deadlines need to be respected to meet all of the company’s obligations. Reconciliation of discrepancies and resolution of counterpart issues requires the jobholder to be able to seek out information necessary for problem solving. Reporting and monitoring obligations per the Dodd-Frank Act, EMIR, Sarbanes-Oxley Act and to comply with other rules & regulations require diligence and attention to detail.
The Back Office Analyst is part of the Global Risk Control team involving Houston, Geneva, and Singapore. The Back Office Analyst works closely with Front Office, Operations, Middle Office, Legal & Compliance, Credit, Treasury, Trading Accounting, IT teams. The team works across locations and product types including natural gas, NGL, LPG, shale gas, LNG, power, emissions, and dry bulk products.

Candidate profile

Your profile
  • You should have a Master degree or equivalent, ideally in a business, economics, mathematical or finance discipline, with 1-2 years’ experience within a Back Office environment
  • You have strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • You have high levels of numeracy and computer literacy, with strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to efficiently connect with a variety of stakeholders
  • You have high degree of accuracy and efficiency under set deadlines in a pressurised environment
  • Being able to work autonomously as well as part of a team is essential as collaboration is key to our collective success. Good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of energy commodity markets is highly desirable
  • Being fluent in English is essential and European languages are desirable
  • Good programming skills (Python or VBA)
  • High levels of flexibility with regard working hours
  • You have a strong drive to improve processes and systems
