Verity is seeking an experienced Cloud Backend Engineer to shape and contribute to our efforts in building cloud-based solutions to manage our industrial drone system, extending its functionalities, and preparing for large-scale commercialization. In this role, you will contribute to the continuous design, development, test, and maintenance of our serverless cloud backend. Depending on your profile, the focus could be on the underlying functionality and frameworks needed to connect drones to the cloud, or on the client-facing dashboard while working closely with our solution teams to integrate with the systems of our clients.

Your daily tasks will focus on architectural design and development of our backend code, with emphasis on reliability and scalability. You will ensure that best practices continue to be the standard in our code base and code review process. With your background in realizing scalable production systems, you enrich the team’s expertise and become a key contributor to the development roadmap. Finally, you will contribute to a fun working environment, delivering state-of-the-art drone-based solutions that are already revolutionizing logistic processes for renowned clients.

Verity is the global leader in autonomous indoor drone systems. Our integrated inventory tracking system enables zero-error warehousing for big box retailers, third-party logistics providers, and manufacturers. Verity counts 3PL giant DSV and IKEA among their current client base. Our live events solutions help create stunning effects for top names in the entertainment industry like Drake, Céline Dion, Metallica, and Cirque du Soleil. We continuously reach beyond existing limitations to rethink, reimagine, and rework the role of robotics in the world today.

Come help us break new boundaries for drone systems and technologies!

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to the design and development of our cloud backend applications, with interfaces to the drone system, user-facing dashboard, and client-specific APIs.
  • Identify new relevant technologies and services and propose architectural patterns that ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of our solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with our team of software engineers, UX designers, and other internal teams, to design high-quality solutions that deliver high value to our clients and are a pleasure to use.
  • Ensure the highest standards of software quality through unit and integration tests, and by defining (new) local and remote testing processes and infrastructure.
  • Spread knowledge about cloud solutions within the department and enable other developers as we continue our shift towards the cloud.
  • Assist with the analysis of general and client-specific requirements.
  • Participate in daily activities of the team, such as code and design reviews, project planning, periodic meetings, etc.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.

What you bring

  • Degree (MSc, BSc) in computer science, software engineering, or relevant field. At least 4+ years of professional hands-on experience in software engineering, with a focus on developing and designing cloud-based applications and services
  • Proven experience in the development and design of scalable, performant, robust and fault-tolerant micro-service architectures
  • Excellent knowledge of AWS services (such as Lambdas, DynamoDB, S3, IoT Core, etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of an object-oriented programming language (C++, Python, Java, etc.)
  • Proven experience in NoSQL data modeling
  • Strong commitment to high coding and design/architecture standards and best practices
  • Practical experience delivering in agile environments
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken

Additional plus:

  • Good knowledge of Python
  • Experience with containers (Docker)
  • Proven experience in developing large architectures, serving many clients and users
  • Experience in dealing with partner companies and collaborating with remote teams
  • Experience with implementing tracing, monitoring and alerting (AWS CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, etc.)
  • Experience with IoT/robotics applications

Who you are

  • High level of initiative and exceptional sense of responsibility (can-do attitude)
  • Team player with high problem-solving competence, capable of working autonomously
