The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician / Computational Biologist to analyse single cell genomics data and support IOB’s gene therapy efforts by designing cell-type-targeted viral vectors.
IOB is a research institute associated with the University of Basel which combines basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. IOB uses state of the art single cell genomics and epigenomics techniques to both understand vision and to test therapies aimed to restore vision. In your role as Bioinformatician, you will bring in your expertise to support our molecular research teams across the institute.
Your position
Analyse single cell RNA and multiomic sequencing and related genomics data sets;
Identify cell types and detect differentially expressed genes or differentially accessible chromatin;
Design viral vectors to achieve cell-type targeted gene expression;
Organize sequencing data and maintain metadata information;
Develop pipelines to automate commonly used workflows;
Communicate clearly with biologists and bioinformaticians to identify objectives and convey results;
Interact closely with members of IOB and collaborators in industry.
Your profile
PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related quantitative discipline;
Minimum 3 years’ experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis;
Expertise in Python and/or R and fluency in Unix/Linux;
Experience with workflow management tools, high-throughput and/or cloud computing;
In depth knowledge of common sequencing technologies;
Experience deciphering or employing cis-regulatory grammar is desired but not required;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
