Bloomberg is looking for an agile and passionate journalist to join our Breaking News team in Zurich, covering Swiss business at a time when interest rates are climbing and inflation is on the rise. The dual role of Breaking News and bureau reporter allows you to be the first pair of eyes on market-moving stories, while also giving you the opportunity to actively report on some of the country’s most important companies.

Bloomberg’s Breaking News team is fast and innovative, and the mission is to deliver the news to readers as quickly as possible, enabling our audience to stay a step ahead. You will watch the flow of information from a range of sources; use strong news judgement to decide what actually has potential to move markets; and relay that information in headlines and dispatches as quickly and clearly as possible. Breaking News team-members thrive in a high-pressure environment, aren’t afraid to make split-second decisions, love surprises and work well with people and technology.

As part of your bureau reporting mandate you will seek to be the first to write about company mergers, leadership changes and strategic developments on your beat. You are a self-starter and a tenacious reporter, with a strong ability to get to the core of a story.

We’ll trust you to:
  • Make fast and decisive calls on breaking news stories, including M&A, IPOs, corporate earnings, government news
  • Write potentially market-moving first versions of stories, quickly and accurately, in English
  • Stay on top of major news stories and trends in our coverage area
  • Craft coverage for both expert Bloomberg terminal clients and a broader readership across a range of other platforms, including Bloomberg’s website, Businessweek, TV and radio.
  • Communicate and collaborate with teams across the company to cover news that is crucial to readers tracking Switzerland
  • Be a constructive, flexible, and dependable team player
You need to have:
  • Fluency in German
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Flexibility with hours and assignments. News is unpredictable!
We would love to see:
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment
  • Experience covering financial markets, business or economies as a journalist
  • Familiarity with automation, machine learning and/or natural language processing
