For our Materials Team within the Energy Technologies Department we are looking for a passionate chemist. In this role, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team on projects aiming at maximizing the sustainability of ABB’s offering, for example by further enabling the usage of eco-efficient gaseous insulation solutions and low GWP polymer materials.

Reporting to the Team Manager - Materials, you will be part of an inspiring R&D environment. Take the possibility and contribute to the development of new material solutions for future energy applications.

Your responsibilities
  • Conducting material science research related to organic and polymer chemistry through projects with direct industrial relevance
  • Working in interdisciplinary project teams at the interface between material science and mechanical/electrical engineering
  • Contributing to a deep scientific understanding of the structural-property relationships in gaseous and polymeric materials
  • Integrating sustainability concepts and approaches in the development of new technologies and solutions
  • Monitoring of new material developments and technologies
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers from ABB divisions and universities
Your background
  • Experience in green chemistry, manufacturing processes or polymer science is an asset
  • Experience with analytical techniques, for example for gas-phase materials (GC-MS,FTIR) but also polymers
  • Basic understanding of the concepts used to quantify the environmental footprint of products and solutions is a plus
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working on topics enabling the energy transition and ensuring a greener society
  • Curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and initiative
  • Team player with good communication skills and an ability to work with globally distributed teams
  • A Ph.D in chemistry or related field
  • Fluency in English
