Chief Data & Analytics Officer - Your future role?

As a Chief Data & Analytics Officer in Vernier, you will foster value creation through the organization’s data assets including internal and external data ecosystem, and envision and drives data-enabled strategies enabling business outcomes.

In this role you will:

Primary Including Management And Operational Accountabilities

  • Defines data, AI, and analytics strategy. Drives the development and deployment of the enterprise’s data and analytics architecture, technologies, and data solutions. Institutes an enterprise operating model that is consistent with the capabilities and competencies required to execute the strategy.
  • Works with executives (and board members when applicable) to establish the vision for managing data as a business asset — to exploit data using research and analytics to maximize the return on data assets.
  • Takes accountability and responsibility for exploiting the value of enterprise information assets, and of the analytics used to render insights for decision making, automated decisions, and augmentation of people performance. Be the corporate leader of data-driven insights that help support the exploitation of strategic and tactical busi-ness opportunities.
  • Develops methods to ensure consistent application and use of analytics. Be the champion and change agent to establish a data and information-based culture to help support the exploitation of strategic business opportunities.
  • Identifies and establishes the governance of use and management of data, algorithms, and data-based solutions used for analysis, analytical applications, and automated decision making.
  • Oversees the development and deployment of the enterprise’s data and analytics platform for digital business.
  • Accountable for providing thought leadership across the data science and analytics function, shaping strategy for opportunity creation.
  • Expands the organization’s research and analytics offerings, especially in emerging analytical approaches, skills, and technologies, focusing them on digital innovation. Leads research, strategy creation, and development of new data products or services to expand markets, monetize data (directly and indirectly), and grow company reve-nue.
  • Identifies new kinds, types, and sources of data to enable business innovation throughout the organization. Creates and oversees a centralized service for sourcing external data to ensure quality, traceability, timeliness, usability, and cost-effectiveness. Defines processes for the effective, integrated introduction of new data.
  • Develops and maintains controls on data quality, interoperability, and sources to effectively manage the corporate risk associated with the use of data and analytics.
  • Fosters the creation of a data-driven culture, related competencies, and data literacy across the enterprise — lead these transformation efforts.
  • Leads the development, publishing, and maintenance of the organization’s information architecture, as well as a roadmap for its future development, ensuring that it matches and enables digital strategy and all business needs.
  • Leads, develops, and maintains data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts, for use by analysts throughout the organization.
  • Organizes, leads, and constantly improves the organization’s capacity to develop insights with advanced analytics. Defines organizational skills and capabilities, and job roles, recruits candidates, and leads a team of data and analytics experts.
  • Develops, manages, allocates, and governs the annual budget for the data and analysis initiatives.
Regulatory and compliance
  • Defines and manages enterprise information management principles, policies, and programs for stewardship, advocacy, and custodianship of data and analytics, in concert with legal, information security, and corporate risk and compliance offices.
  • Develops and maintains controls on data quality, interoperability, and sources to effectively manage the corporate risk associated with the use of data and analytics.
  • Defines, manages and ensures an adequate information trust model, controls for master data and metadata management, including reference data. Measures master data and reference data for compliance with policy, standards, and conceptual models. Assures the deployment and management of data quality monitoring practices.
  • Partners with CISO and develop policies and controls for the appropriate protection of enterprise information assets through a life cycle, from creation to disposal.
  • Ensures that the data used for financial reporting and to support legal requirements is valid, reliable, traceable, timely, available, secure, and consistent. Ensures that appropriate audit controls exist for data and analytics that serve as the source material for regulatory reports. Ensures that business reports derived from controlled data are consistent and representative of the true state of the business.
  • Leads regulatory and compliance programs related to data and analytics assets.
  • Organizes and leads a data and analytics governance council to provide executive sponsorship for and oversight of government policy creation and compliance.
  • Organizes and chairs a data and analytics governance council (CEO, division heads, CFO, CIO, Head of Risk and Compliance, Head of Enterprise Architecture, Legal, Data Stewards for business units)
  • Participates in the following governance domains: business strategy and planning, management and financial reporting, enterprise architecture, IT/digital strategy and planning, risk and compliance, and marketing strategy and planning. This includes participating in other governance forums where the CDAO’s input is desired.
  • Member of the core team interacting with regulators, and representing the enterprise to customers, suppliers, and external bodies in the development of industry data and analytics standards if and when applicable.

Your professional profile includes:

Academic Background
  • A master’s degree or Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Academic qualification or professional training and experience in legal and regulatory areas are also desirable.
Professional Experience
  • 15+ years of business experience, ideally in digital or IT domains — recently at or near the executive level. Broad strategy, leadership, and business experience internally is desired, and within the vertical industry is a plus.
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
  • Experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards.
Technical Skills
  • Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to work across business lines at a senior level to influence and effect change to achieve common goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership; proven track record of leading complex, multidisciplinary talent teams in advanced technology domains and delivering solutions.
  • Proven data literacy — The ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options. The ability to translate among the languages used by executives, functions, IT, and all other stakeholders.
  • Information strategy experience — Experience in strategic technology planning and execution, and policy development and maintenance.
  • Analytical skills — Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment.
  • Gravitas to develop a framework for information and analytics governance, as well as to influence and embed it in all levels of the business.
