In the context of Alpiq’s further growth in the energy trading and origination business, we have created the role of a Commodity Trade Finance Specialist. The purpose of this role is to act as a Business Assurance Partner and Subject Matter Expert to our Finance and Commodity Trading functions, providing the necessary checks and balances and optimizing capital usage. This is a stand-alone role and a great opportunity for an expert, who would like to apply their knowledge and best practices across the business. It is based at our offices in Olten, Switzerland.


Main responsibilities

  • Supporting the origination, structuring and execution of commodity finance structures
  • Reviewing proposed structures from an optimal cost/benefit and risk perspective
  • Proposing alternative structures to optimize capital usage and cost
  • Supporting managing and optimizing liquidity related to market exposure
  • Presenting and following up on transactional financing matters with banks and other financial institutions and customers (incl all types of guarantees)
  • Handling of documentary responsibilities and guarantees
  • Negotiating related fees
  • Maintaining databases and systems

Main qualifications

  • Higher education, financial background with appropriate professional qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in a trade finance function within the commodity trading and/or financial services industry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with results-oriented mind-set
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a cross- departmental and multi-cultural team across all hierarchy levels
  • Willing to take full ownership of your work or projects and inspire collaborative approach to exceed expectations
  • Willing to engage in a changing and flexible environment, with the ability to question the status quo and take feedback
  • Feeling at ease in a role of business partner whilst ensuring a system of checks and balances
  • Strong drive and proactive and autonomous work style
  • Fluent English and German, French an advantage
