UNICEF’s private sector division new strategic plan has ambitious goals to deliver on income, influence, and brand recognition. A key driver of increased income is high-value, strategic private sector partnerships (corporates, foundations, and high net worth individuals). This role will work closely with the high-value fundraisers and the Partnership Advisory Support Services (PASS) team to ensure alignment in the earliest stages of partnership negotiations, and incorporate partner expectations and goals into the overarching partnership communication strategy and plan.

The purpose of the post is to ensure appropriate UNICEF visibility, messaging, and branding in high-value global and multi-country partnerships (with corporate, foundations, and high net worth individuals) and to manage UNICEF’s communication response around reputational risk issues linked to engaging with these partners.

Summary Of Key Functions/accountabilities
  • Provides strategic direction to media and communication work linked to global or multi-country corporate, foundation and major donor partnerships, ensuring that related activities are in line with PFP’s fundraising, advocacy, and brand positioning objectives, as well as UNICEF’s ethical and brand guidelines.
  • Develops measurable global communication and marketing strategies for UNICEF’s significant high-value partnerships to deliver on joint objectives. Helps manage the media and communication/marketing/PR expectations of partnerships.
  • Develops and implements communication (and marketing) activities in close coordination with external partners and UNICEF’s partnership and due diligence focal points to include: providing communication parameters for new partners; facilitating joint communication planning with partners; drafting communication materials such as news releases, social media posts and briefing notes for partners; sourcing engaging content for external communication channels, reviewing and editing of partner communication materials referencing UNICEF; coordinating with media/PR specialist, PFP Comms regarding global media outreach; and assists the UNICEF Spokesperson as needed for press briefings including drafting talking points.
  • Ensures effective profiling of partners through UNICEF external global channels (website, and social media channels) to ensure visibility and recognition of partner investment.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of visits by partners to UNICEF Country Offices.
  • In close consultation with the Media/PR specialist and/or the Chief of Section manages communication around risk issues linked to partner engagement, contributes to the prevention of media/PR crises and, works with internal stakeholders, corporate partners, and PR agencies to successfully manage crisis response when required.
  • As a staff manager, agrees clear and achievable work objectives for each supervisee, monitors performance, and ensures appropriate development and training of staff. Provides leadership, support and guidance to foster and maintain staff motivation and engagement as well as sound staff management relations.

Education
  • An advanced university degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, and related fields or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two years of additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience
  • A minimum of five years working in the field of communication or marketing including recent experience in working with private sector companies on communication and public relations.
  • Experience working with media, and managing media required.
  • Experience developing and implementing communication and marketing strategies required.
  • Experience working in a UNICEF field office and familiarity with the work of UNICEF National Committees would be an asset.
  • UNICEF/UN experience is considered as an asset.
Language Requirements
  • Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable.

Remarks

UNICEF PFP-Geneva is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the exact future location of the post is still under consideration/to be determined. Candidates may be asked commence duties remotely. Should the selected candidate be assigned and relocate to Geneva, they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to another location during the initial contract or assignment period.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
