GLOBAL COMPLIANCE
Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You’ll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. A position where you will help ensure the firm is compliant with the appropriate rules and regulations within the private banking and wealth management industry. We’re looking for a professional to lead our Zurich-based Private Wealth Management (PWM) Compliance team, who wants to use their drive, enthusiasm and abilities to provide world class compliance advisory coverage to our PWM business, in the role of Head of Compliance and member of the Executive Committee of Goldman Sachs Bank AG.

HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL

PWM Compliance is a team within Global Compliance that services the Private Wealth Management business within the Consumer and Wealth Management Division. The role of Compliance within PWM is to partner with the business in order to conduct and supervise its business in compliance with regulations and firm policies, help to reduce the firm’s regulatory and reputation risk, and reinforce the firm’s culture of compliance. The Swiss Compliance team is a part of the Global PWM Compliance team with other team members in London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and Frankfurt. The Swiss Compliance team primarily focuses on supporting the PWM business with respect to: travel and cross-border topics; client onboarding across a diverse range of client jurisdictions and legal structures; review and approval of marketing materials; trade surveillance and approvals including complex products; suitability; review of errors and client complaints; training on new rules and regulations, internal policies and conduct risk; and providing on-going day to day support and advice to the Swiss PWM Business.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of Compliance professionals based in Zurich and Geneva, providing day to day Compliance coverage for the PWM Swiss business
  • Supervise and evolve a risk-oriented compliance programme that manages risk and supports regulatory compliance for the PWM Swiss business, based on an annual risk assessment process.
  • Leverage firmwide and business specific policies and controls, while adapting and responding to the risks, regulatory environment and business needs of the PWM Swiss business, looking continuously for opportunities to drive greater efficiency and effectiveness across the programme
  • Develop strong teamwork and relationships, working closely with colleagues across the PWM Compliance team in EMEA and globally, as well as the broader Global Compliance Division within GS
  • Partner with the PWM Business, playing a leading role in representing compliance and taking a solutions-oriented approach to providing compliance advice and input on:
    • Implementation of regulatory change
    • Support for business growth and new initiatives
    • Complex client and transactional situations
    • Managing risks identified by the compliance programme
  • The role holder will also participate as a member of the Goldman Sachs Bank AG Executive Committee and will, among other duties, report promptly to the executive committee on any major changes in the compliance risk assessment.
  • The role holder will also make periodic reports to the Goldman Sachs Bank AG Board of Directors, on the assessment of compliance risk and the activities of the compliance function, in addition to escalating any more significant matters of note.

Basic Qualifications:
  • University degree and/or professional compliance / financial services qualification
  • 10+ years’ compliance experience, including Swiss and Private wealth management experience and leading a compliance team.
  • Knowledge of Swiss markets and regulatory environment and EU regulatory environment
  • Sound and balanced judgement, backed by strong investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written/oral communication skills
  • Strong product knowledge and trading strategies used by PWM, e.g. structured products, alternative investments, derivatives
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • fluent English; German/French is of substantial benefit
  • Proficient in MS office tools including strong knowledge of MS-Excel
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
  • Strong team player, with ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience of conducting or managing trade surveillance or equivalent monitoring activity
  • Any knowledge of other European or international regulatory regimes an advantage
  • Additional language capabilities beneficial
  • Experience working as part of a global / geographically diverse team an advantage
