Main Responsibilities

The data scientist will be an integral part of the global analytics organization building scalable data pipelines and analyzing large LDC internal and publicly available data sets to help advance trading and research models to forecast market dynamics inclusive of crop production, pricing and customer behavioral analysis globally.

Main responsibilities:
  • Involved in identifying the business requirements and opportunities with the Lead Data Scientist
  • Identify and analyze valuable data sources to discover trends, patterns and explanatory power
  • Build and deploy predictive models and ML algorithms to solve business challenges
  • Work with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Software Developers to deploy solutions into production environment
  • Collaborate with the Lead Data Scientist to define metrics and KPIs to assess the predictive performance of the models
  • Provide technical support and guidance to peers located in LDC business platforms (data scientists and researchers)
  • Review existing literature on weather and remote sensing applied to agricultural commodities, in a context of acreage and yield forecast.
Experiences

  • Minimum six years of related work experience (PhD in related field will be considered as work experience)
  • Experience in writing Python or R code to implement and manage data science pipelines and predictive algorithms
  • Successful experience in pair programming and with version control systems to build solid data pipelines
  • Experience in the commodity sector, preferably in the agriculture industry is considered a plus
Skills

  • Ability to build user-friendly visualizations/dashboards (e.g. Databricks, PowerBI)
  • Ability to use various cloud-based storage solutions and their application (e.g. SQL, Data Lakes)
  • Interest in writing and maintaining high-quality, robust, and efficient code
  • Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities, with a product development mindset
  • Oral and written communication skills to translate complex problems into clear and simple stories and communicate across the organization, especially to teams with less data & analytics experience
  • Quick and autonomous learner

  • Master’s degree in a related field (i.e. computer science, statistics, data science, quantitative finance, econometrics, remote sensing)
