Your role

Are you interested to work in a large and modern IBM mainframe environment in the area of Db2 Engineering? Do you have a curious nature, always interested in how to innovate? We’re looking for someone like this, in order to:

  • Planning, installation and maintenance of Db2 System software and related ISV software components which support the UBS environments
  • Problem management and problem determination of assigned software in a high-end parallel sysplex z/OS environment.
  • Monitoring Db2 subsystems for high availability and take proactive measures to minimize outages
  • Provide technical assistance to the Database Administrators, Application Developers and Computer Operations Personnel in problem diagnosis and resolution
  • Willingness to provide 24x7 production support
  • Manage or collaboration in various projects

You’d be engaged as a Contractor, employed by our external Payroll Partner for the duration of the contract.

Your team

Infrastructure Core is a global organization within Group Technology Infrastructure & Security Engineering providing technology platforms to underpin our partners business applications. You will be part of the Mainframe Db2 Engineering team, which has a global footprint and works with clients and wider team members spread across the world. Together we drive consistency across business divisions and optimize operations and support costs, by providing timely, robust, cost effective solutions and products to our clients.

You’ll be working in the Db2 Engineering team, as part of the Technology division in Zürich. As a Db2 System Engineer you will be responsible for installation and maintaining Db2 base software and its releases, and configures Db2 subsystems on z/OS platforms. Included are all DB2 related 3rd party tools, as well as connectivity to and between the subsystems. In the context of DB2 systems and vendor tools, we take responsibility for incident and problem management, system restart and recovery, security, subsystem housekeeping, and standards. Team work is pivotal to our success, it plays a very important role. We offer flexibility in the workplace and equal opportunities to all our team members.

Your expertise

  • 5+ years of experience in the DB2 mainframe software and database administration area
using Db2 for z/OS
  • Good skills in z/OS operating systems architecture, design & implementation
  • Experience with physical database design
  • Physical design skills for large databases including partitioning and index structures
  • Ability to understand the impact of application design on performance
  • Extensive background in database performance monitoring and tuning
  • Experience in supporting multiple large scale development, QA and production
environments
  • Experience with application related features like for instance stored procedures and temporary tables
  • Production support skills in a high availability environment
  • Hands on person with an overwhelming aim to serve and support the customer when
problems appear
  • Strong customer service focus
  • SMP/E and working with the z/OS operating system is an absolute must and the base
for this job opportunity
  • Experience in software development/deployment on MVS, OS/390 and z/OS Systems
up to Rel. 2.1
  • Expert know how in TSO/ISPF, REXX, z/OS and its subsystems are essential
(base: DB2 Systems Engineering) and the Microsoft Office Palette, as well as Db Data
management tools like BMC, IBM etc. are an advantage.
  • Experience with BMC Tools and Utilities will be an advantage
  • Team Player, Initiative and customer oriented thinking
  • know-how to apply standards, methods, techniques and templates as defined by our SDLC
  • produce secure and clean code that is stable, operational, consistent and well-performing
  • preferable previous experience in designing, planning and delivering solutions in a large scale enterprise environment
  • Study like ETH (CH) or University (intl.) or similar required, if longer in this business an
education based or training on the job and related education in classes can also fit in
the profile
  • well organized with an innate sense of how to prioritize across a complex environment
  • curious, collaborative and constantly interested in learning new things
