Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future.

At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

We are looking for an outstanding computational scientist or applied mathematician to join our group and to strengthen our mathematical and numerical modelling capabilities, especially in the field of development of finite element codes and their application to physical problems.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with a desire to combine the latest numerical methods with mathematical and physical understanding to drive new developments in the field of electrical devices and systems. If you are passionate about science and technology and want to work in an inspiring environment where your skills are used to address important questions, then apply now.

Your responsibilities
  • develop and adapt finite element solvers for specific problems in the ABB domain allowing both efficient and precise numerical simulations of industrial devices
  • design multi-physics simulation methods combining different numerical approaches to capture and correctly describe the underlying processes; contribute actively to the development to the respective physical models
  • act as a bridge between advanced numerical technologies and applications in the engineering domain; work in a multidisciplinary team together with engineers developing the device design or application.
  • collect and define requirements for the development; generate new product ideas
  • work with and transfer knowledge to and from ABB divisions and other partners from industry and academia
  • initiate and lead industrial research projects
  • publish scientific articles and attend conferences
Your background
  • Ph.D. in computational science or closely related field; post-doctoral experience is an advantage
  • outstanding scientific track record
  • experience in development of advanced numerical methods using object-oriented codes, especially for finite element methods
  • broad knowledge in numerical methods, underlying models and physics; experience with computational electrodynamics is a plus
  • ability to quickly acquire knowledge in new scientific areas and to integrate innovative techniques into your workflow, openness to new challenges and trends in an industrial research environment
  • curiosity, enthusiasm, and drive to bridge the gap between research and application
  • fluency in English and willingness to learn German
  • communication skills and interest in lively interaction within interdisciplinary teams

Benefits
  • Canteen
  • Flexible work practices
