Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future.

At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

This internship position dedicated to improving our internal platform for the simulation switching devices. These simulations couple many physical phenomena: electromagnetism, heat and mass transfer, and multibody mechanics. These physical phenomena are mathematically modelled and numerically discretized to allow a simulation. All decisions on modelling assumptions, discretization methods and resolution in time and space affect the accuracy of the simulation and the speed. You will perform a detailed analysis and systematic simulation campaign to improve these decisions such that computational effort is spent where it benefits accuracy most, leading ideally to faster and more accurate simulations than today.

In these internships, you are integrated into both the Theoretical and Computational Methods Team and the platform development team, and you will collaborate with scientists and engineers in several countries.

Your responsibilities
  • Gain overview of phenomena, models, and discretization methods in place
  • Analyze domains and parameters that are critical for simulation accuracy and speed
  • Design and execute simulation campaign to quantify ideal combinations of parameters to balance accuracy and speed
  • Deduce and formalize recommendations for future use
Your background
  • Enrolled student in computational science, physics, mathematics, engineering or a related subject (advanced B. Sc. or M.Sc. level)
  • Experience in CAD software models developement
  • Broad knowledge of numerical methods and physics
  • Knowledge on CFD and electromagnetic modelling is a plus

Benefits
  • Canteen
  • Flexible work practices
  • Childcare
