Job Summary

The Desktop Systems Specialist provides day-to-day technical support to employees for network infrastructure and internal desktop systems software and hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Provide end user support (1st and 2nd line support). This will be a combination of face-to-face, remote, telephone, IM, email, and IT ticket system entries. All work to be logged via ticket system regardless of interaction method. Responsible for interactions with 3rd line escalations team, assisting with local tasks and end user troubleshooting.
  • Maintain regular site visits to EMEA branch offices, Rapperswil (Switzerland) and Grenoble (France). Potential visits to office and data centre located in Germany.
  • Provide maintenance of user equipment including computers, peripherals, telecoms equipment, meeting room equipment and office printers. Configuration and deployment of hardware for new employees or to replace aging/faulty equipment for existing employees.
  • Hardware procurement and spare stock management at multiple EMEA sites. Renewal of software licenses/agreements
  • Support IT projects such as office relocations, new tool deployments and OS upgrades
  • Provide user onboarding and offboarding. Basic IT systems introduction and training as part of onboarding process
  • Manage mobile phone fleet and telecoms accounts
  • Manage local tape backup and other regular maintenance/housekeeping tasks
  • Handle IT security tasks including ensuring software is up-to-date, security tools are functioning correctly, improvements to existing devices or systems configuration to increase security and investigation of unusual system behaviour alongside internal cyber security dept.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems including Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10
  • Understanding of computer networking concepts such as network switches, wireless access points and other similar technology, with enough understanding to effectively troubleshoot local and site to site connectivity issues with various troubleshooting techniques/tools
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and other similar Windows based desktop applications. Versions 2010 and 2016 preferred.
  • 3 to 4 years of Desktop support experience in medium to large corporate environment
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Ability to multi-task and excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Maintenance skills for laptop, desktop and server hardware, including but not limited to hard drive replacement, memory upgrades, expansion card installation and performance troubleshooting
  • Fluent in both English and French languages are essential. German as third language would be a bonus
