The Digital Innovation Director is a key organizational position which partners with colleagues across all Franchises, Functions, Novartis Divisions and external channels to drive implementation of groundbreaking digital technologies. They play an essential role in driving Global Drug Development’s digital agenda by catalyzing and leading digital projects to bring them to life.

The Digital Innovation Director is a core team member of the assigned Digital Program Team (DPT) and works closely with the respective Digital Program Head of GDD D&D and holds direct responsibility in the execution of an integrated strategy by ensuring alignment and efficient cross functional execution of multiple digital initiatives. This requires the ability to influence and lead multi-disciplinary teams across a variety of subject matters with minimal authority and to deliver with high quality, and in accordance with approved strategy.

Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Drive initiatives and partnerships related to digital technologies in clinical development (e.g., protocol design, AI based analytics). Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) pilot programs to evaluate disruptive technologies
• Ensure the successful adoption and scale-up of digital technologies across Novartis GDD as well as develop and nurture relationships with other Development functions and external partners to ensure the expansion of solutions/ innovation across the Development portfolio
• Partner with Global Line Functions to identify business challenges, match needs with potential digital solutions, and drive scoping activities
• Supports digital initiatives across varying areas of technological disciplines (analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, NLP/G) with the core objective of meeting key business needs
• Builds positive relationships and supports team members as needed for effective initiative delivery
• Responsible for collaborating effectively with teams to ensure proactive identification of issues, developing mitigation plans and tracking resolutions
• Identifies and implements best practices for innovative project, program and change management
• Participates in initiatives (within and outside of GDD D&D) to identify, develop and implement improvements to ways of working and to accelerate innovative initiatives

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Advanced degree in business or life sciences or equivalent experience in life science.
• Fluency in English (written and oral).
• 10+ years industry or consulting, and 5+ years or equivalent multi/cross-functional leadership
• 2+ years pharmaceutical experience with an advanced understanding and relevant experience with digital technology and pharmaceutical development
• Experienced in drug development and/or clinical operations
• Experience developing, launching, and leading projects/programs within a large scale and complex international and multidisciplinary teams
• Strong experience in engaging and communicating with, and influencing senior leaders
• Cultural sensitivity and appreciation of the power of diversity in teams
• Proven experience of problem definition and problem solving as well as demonstrated experience of scenario development and evaluation, and contingency planning. Ability to navigate unchartered territory without clear precedent
