The successful candidate will focus their efforts on helping to lead the Commercial and Market Access Strategy, along with the commercialization implementation process across our portfolio in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Due to the global nature of this role, the successful candidate can be located in one of our Worldwide (WW) hubs in Princeton, Uxbridge or Boudry.The successful candidate must have a deep understanding of the LMIC Healthcare systems in LatAm, MEA, &/or Asi and h ands on market access experience in launch of Emerging Market Brands (EMBs) within LMICs. The use of EMBs in LMICs is a relatively new approach for BMS, and the candidates prior experience in leading and educating various teams and stakeholders will be essential for success.The successful candidate must also be well-versed in enterprise-wide aspects of a company’s organization as it relates to global access/commercial issues including manufacturing, supply, medical, regulatory, legal, finance, BAI, and other relevant functions within a bio-pharmaceutical company. The successful candidate will need to have the ability to integrate these disciplines and thereby formulate LMIC access strategies and deliver upon their execution. An ability to lead a cross-functional team, regardless of seniority and without formal reporting line authority, will be critical. Bringing the payers, patients, and other external stakeholders’ perspective is required for integrating insights into the LMIC strategy.This role will be responsible for driving all LMIC market access, and landscape shaping strategies across key therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will lead ‘market access, commercialization, and value messaging’ within LMIC and will need to work closely with WW and country teams, as well as third party local representatives to integrate specific LMIC needs into our current and future product lifecycles. This role includes all aspects related to lifecycle management in LMICs, including input to pricing, launch sequencing and planning/optimization.Responsibilities
  • Be a key member of the LMIC Commercial Strategy and Execution team.
  • The ability and internal drive to move initiatives forward on their own.
  • Demonstrated Ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems.
Ability to interact in a highly matrixed environment, and build strong, successful business partnerships with local representatives, affiliates, regional, and global colleagues.
  • Be a point of contact and partner with specific LMIC country teams, the LMIC Functional Team members, and other brand teams within BMS
  • Lead/Chair agendas and facilitate various Functional Team sub-group committees and drive the decision process
  • Present and defend sub-group committee recommendations to the Broader Functional Team at the bi-weekly meetings
  • Provide commercial and access recommendations to Sr. Management on the LMIC Functional (and at times the Governance Committee) on EMB launch strategy, including products, countries, and timelines
  • Ensure that the Functional Team (and at times the Governance Committee) is provided with the data they need to make be best decision / recommendation possible
  • Develop (in conjunction with others) a LMIC commercial, access and execution strategy for all of BMS’ portfolio starting with a few key priority medicines.
  • For pre-defined countries/geographical areas, drive (in conjunction with others) the commercial LMIC strategy, execution, training of various departments, and country teams
  • Contribute to launch prioritization sequence planning of EMBs within the larger BMS launch planning process
  • Support (formally or informally) the preparation, discussion, and review of LMIC EMB launch business cases in the ICON region, with support from in-region colleagues and country teams
  • Ensure operational effectiveness across the LMIC Access to BMS Medicines Strategy and identify continuous improvement opportunities that impact all functions (working closely with internal stakeholders)
  • Ensure representation from relevant X-functional WW, Regional, and country teams are included and are supporting your recommendations
  • As it relates to LMIC, support affiliates, regional, and WW colleagues, in the preparation of internal and external pricing & reimbursement submissions
  • Partner with WW VAP and commercial teams to provide evidence and insights required to support optimal product commercial access
  • Provide insights on reimbursement trends, competitor LMIC Access/Commercial Strategies
  • In light of future reimbursement and commercial barriers, work with country teams to develops strategic options for shaping the external environment that will lead to better commercial LMIC Access success
  • Ensure country teams develop tactical options and mitigation plans to optimize commercial LMIC Access success
  • Ensure that various global and regional teams are aware of the unique needs of LMIC markets
  • Partners/support the ‘no-commercial team’ on LMIC strategies
  • Work with the ‘no-commercial team’ to assess and transition countries into commercial opportunities
  • For pre-defined and agreed to geographical areas, you will serve as a conduit between the commercial and no-commercial teams
  • Ensure strong partnership ability, particularly with the no-commercial and LR CoE teams as it related to progressing our business model
  • Align and update the LMIC ‘story board’ that would allow all Functional Team members to share our LMIC goals and visions with their various departments to ensure organizational alignment
  • Support our new enterprise-wide evolution that will need to be implemented and executed as we evolve our Commercial LMIC EMB Access Strategy
  • Validate affiliates and LR inputs into business cases, annual Budget and LMIC Strategic Planning
  • Ensure that legal and compliance are aware of the LMIC process and are fully involved where needed
  • Identify areas of synergy, best practice, and opportunity for improvement across LMIC and WW organizations and implement solutions accordingly
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in economics or a health/science discipline, MBA and/or other post-graduate degree required
  • Solid experience in LMIC countries in areas such as pricing, market access, and policy, and/or commercial
  • Experience in executing product strategic commercial and access plans in LMICs
  • Strong understanding of the current and emerging global Market Access environment LMIC
  • Solid understanding of International Reference Pricing (IRP).
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate future Market Access strategy scenarios and lead cross-functional teams, without formal authority, to act on these scenarios
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience of biopharmaceutical industry with deep understanding and application of global/large health care systems for market access, pricing, and reimbursement
  • 2+ years of LMIC industry experience, or 3 + years of Market Access experience leading EMBs in LMIC (Market Access and Pricing, strategic planning, business analysis, business development, finance, or related field experience)
  • Proven record in achieving Pricing and reimbursement launches successes in LMICs
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to synthesize complex information for strategic optionality / decision making by Senior Leadership
  • International travel may be required ~20%
  • This position is a cross-geography and cross-functional in nature, and is part of a highly matrixed organization, working on a wide range of needs and issues. International travel may be required ~20% (depending on location) and will require flexibly working hours to accommodate virtual online meetings with colleagues across multiple time zones.
