Janssen R&D is recruiting for a Director, Digital Transformation Strategy (DTS), located in US or Europe. The job holder will have the responsibility to lead an agile, skilled, diverse and collaborative team, and deliver digital transformation results in collaboration with global business functions, innovation groups, IT, and external parties. Our objective is to identify significant, unmet digital transformation needs, and orchestrate change by bringing together diverse perspectives and leaders. Our drive is towards agility, focus on the needs of the trial participants, sites and trial decision-makers to allow for the best possible science and health outcomes across all communities. We look to how digital transformation can also support clinical trial diversity, inclusion, and health equity. We are guided by striving for break-through scale in deployment and adoption: transitioning capabilities from experimentation to significant benefit realization. Among the focus areas are: digital health, digital recruitment, electronic source, site centricity, trial optimization, augmented analytics, and the underlying data fabric. Key success factors include an agile approach, organizational change leadership, user experience research, disruptive technologies, strong partnerships with industry leaders and vendors, lateral thinking across fields, clear first-principles thinking, and an ability to network across the organization to mobilize talent and collaborators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-functioning team and build a department to enable industry-leading digital transformation strategy development, with a focus on delivering value for our customers and partners.
  • Engage with leadership teams across R&D to discuss and set priorities, collaboratively shape projects, identify talented contributors, and discuss progress, risks, solutions and outcomes.
  • Assume the role of Program/Project Director for specific, high priority programs/projects to ensure successful delivery and business outcomes realization.
  • Establish a benchmarking network facilitating the distillation of practices from leading organizations and internal teams within J&J.
  • Define and embed innovation strategies to drive high quality decisions and influence the culture across the business with a focus on harmonizing the participant and site experience, accelerating speed and increasing the overall quality of data and processes in drug development.
  • Collaboration with internal and external partners to develop robust strategies that identify pain-points and value-based solution and evidence generation.
  • Accountable for establishing external relationships and collaborations to drive innovation, anticipating changes in the customer behaviour landscape and adjusting the strategic direction accordingly.
  • Building and leading digital program teams through successful end-to-end development cycles from pilot stage to enterprise adoption.
  • Building an agile, collaborative cross-functional team ecosystem which delivers strong strategies and efficient execution for their programs in a highly complex, uncertain, competitive environment.
  • Driving external collaborations and projects and representing programs externally.
  • Ability to demonstrate and support diversity and inclusion practices and global health projects.

Education

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree in science.
  • Additional degree or accreditation such as an MBA is a help.
  • Trainings and certifications in project management and process improvement is a plus.

Required

Experience and Skills:
  • 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D, ideally across multiple therapeutic areas and across trial operations, specialized functions, and digital technologies.
  • Strong understanding of innovative clinical trial digitalization technologies and proven ability to drive large-scale R&D transformation projects.
  • Good understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies
  • Collaborative and visionary leadership style, excelling in developing and motivating great talent through mentoring and coaching
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and able to prioritize and respond to changing needs of the business.

  • Proficient in English language, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
