The Gilead Government Affairs team is and will be involved in high profiles projects to achieve our long-term strategy to become a partner of choice.The roleThe Government Affairs Director for Switzerland will be a senior government affairs professional with strong strategic and execution skills. The Director will work with measurable business impact in a fast-moving and challenging policy environment build and evolve the GA strategy and function as part of the Gilead team.Leadership
  • Deliver strategic leadership as an active member of Gilead’s leadership Team in Switzerland, shaping the affiliate and Government Affairs strategy and activities
  • Work as a strong partner with the General Manager, the Leadership Team and the team on crossfunctional and government affairs opportunities and challenges
  • Engage with political stakeholders (including government, parliament and cantonal political stakeholders) to shape and drive relevant policy debates and legislation in areas of interest for Gilead in Switzerland and meet clearly defined KPIs
  • Work on government affairs issues across the ACE Midsize Market region as active member of the regional and international Government Affairs Team
Core Tasksand Responsibilities
  • Develop, lead and implement innovative and industry-leading governmental affairs policy, strategy and activities to support the objectives of Gilead Switzerland
  • Manage strategies, initiatives, operations, and activities on national and regional health policy and pharmaceutical policy and legislation
  • Monitor the legislative/regulatory environment with the objective of providing Gilead’s management with sophisticated information and options on dealing with developments so that our interests are achieved
  • Partner with external stakeholders and create a positive reputation for Gilead Sciences among national and regional parliamentarians and members of the government, advisors and the political environment, for the purpose of facilitating and enhancing Gilead’s mission
  • Lead our work to shape the external environment with trade associations and industry platforms together with the GM and the Swiss Leadership Team
  • Work collaboratively and align with other members of government affairs department as well as other Gilead departments in Switzerland and internationally. Ensure that government affairs initiatives and policy objectives are fully aligned with Gilead’s business priorities, and help Gilead identify opportunities to work with policymakers to advance our mission
Requirements
  • Strong executive presence and strategic mindset with ability to command respect through experience and expertise internally and externally
  • Excellent understanding of the political and business environment in Switzerland
  • Exceptional level of influencing and managing relationships to develop, implement and deliver the Government Affairs strategy and plan for Gilead Switzerland
  • In-depth knowledge of the Swiss healthcare system and key policies (preferably HIV, oncology, liver and COVID-19-therapies) relevant for pharmaceutical market access for highly innovative medicines is essential
  • Strong expertise in shaping value, access and reimbursement policy framework and pharmaceutical budgets, especially when working with the BAG and on the Article 71 process
  • Proven ability in delivering successful/favourable policy and advocacy results, requires a strong track record of experience in implementing projects with defined outcomes in government, a government affairs or policy role
  • Extensive experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries preferred
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills and sound business judgment and analytical skills required
  • Track record of being a trusted team player as part of a leadership team. Cross-functional collaboration and accountability are key to success in this position
  • Fluent in English and at least German or French. Further Swiss languages are a plusƒ
  • Experience of budget and cost centre management
  • Typically requires a BSc or BA degree and with significant prior experience in government, government affairs, public affairs or policy role. A MA or MSc degree or MBA and relevant experience is preferred
