The Role

Come help Moderna scale! This is an exciting new role and opportunity to be a key member of the International Finance team supporting a dynamic and high growth organization that is radically changing the biotechnology industry.

Reporting directly to the Head Finance International and functionally to the Head, Treasury & Tax, this position will be a key member of the International Finance team and responsible for executing Moderna’s global tax strategy and initiatives across the International Region (excl. North America). Based in Basel, Switzerland, the position will lead for all direct and indirect tax matters for the region, including timely and accurate tax reporting across jurisdictions. He/She will work closely with the global tax department in the US, internal business partners and external advisors and consultants. This new position will represent a key leadership role in supporting Moderna’s growth plans.

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Ensure compliance with all local tax rules across all affiliates in the international region
• Ensure appropriate record keeping in line with requirements of international jurisdiction
• Work with third party firms to assist with all corporate direct and indirect tax filings of all jurisdictions in the International region
• Ensure VAT compliance in international region
• Collaborate with global tax department and tax advisors to assess and ensure compliance with various International and OECD directives
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provisions under local statutory and tax laws and in accordance with US GAA
• Contribute to companies forecasting and planning cycles for tax matters.
• Actively participate in SAP projects, including assessment, selection and implementation of an indirect tax tool
• Contribute and review transfer pricing analyses and documentation requirements across International jurisdictions
• Support international expansion for tax due diligence, structuring, funding and tax accounting
• Collaborate with the finance function and key business stakeholders to understand business strategies and pro-actively identify and communicate associated tax opportunities and/or risks
• Quantify long-term impact of regional tax priorities for purposes of the company’s long-term strategic plan
• Lead audit activities across the region in close coordination with global tax team colleagues and International financial and business executives
• Liaise with external auditors and advisors on special projects and planning initiatives
  

Here’s What You’ll Bring To The Table

• Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting preferred. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required
• 12+ years of combined tax experience at either Big 4 public accounting firm or corporate multi-national company, preferably in biopharma or life sciences industries
• 5+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry
• Strong accounting background and skills; ability to detect, explore and solve technical tax and related accounting issues
• Strong knowledge of VAT rules
• Experience in managing tax audits and engaging in discussions with tax authorities for tax rulings
• Understanding of all aspects of the tax process: Tax Planning, Tax Accounting, and Tax Reporting
• Experience in resolving issues involving multiple subsidiaries and intercompany transactions
• Motivation and initiative to take ownership of project from discovery to resolutions, set aggressive goals, drive results, and meet tight deadlines
• Effective communication skills, including an ability to both listen and articulate complex concepts to different audiences, resulting in action-oriented outcomes.
• Analytical and effective problem solver with strong quantitative abilities
• High ethical standards, integrity and strength of character in his/her personal and professional dealings and a willingness to act on and be accountable for his/her decisions.
• Experience using SAP, MS Office
• Ability to travel
• Excellent English and German skills, both written and verbal
