About This Role

GM Europe has been established as a mobility start-up business maximising GM global investments in areas such as software enabled services, mobility solutions, and other financial services, interlinked with and complementing the vehicle business.

In the European Innovation role, you will lead external communications in this area for GM Europe. You will develop the communications strategy and external launches for our projects and programs developed in-house creating new businesses that are backed by the global scale and expertise of General Motors.

Working with subject matter experts and business leaders you will lead the storytelling around exciting new growth areas and partner announcements to enhance positive reputational impact. You will also partner with marketing colleagues on an integrated go-to-market strategy and will manage the support and services of the regional PR agency.

You will deliver strategies that focus on the core pillars of the GM global communications function, with a strong emphasis on new content models and digital platforms to inspire advocates for the business, at a consumer, business and policy-maker level. These will be critical to supporting the financial performance and growth of the GM Europe business.

This role will offer the opportunity to expand leadership skills and act as the media-facing company spokesperson on a variety of topic areas and business launches. You will report to the Executive Director of GM International Communications. You will also co-manage joint product and innovation/growth events.

New business launches, media relations and event planning or project management experience is strongly preferred. Experience in advanced technology communications is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Additional Job Description
  • Develop and implement the external and internal communications strategy for the mobility, innovation and growth areas of GM Europe.
  • Lead the Communications strategy for new business projects including the development of press materials, FAQs and live/virtual media and influencers activities
  • Work in an integrated manner with marketing colleagues to develop compelling written and visual content to be used across earned and owned media channels, with a firm understanding of key marketing principle
  • Use data and analytics to drive communication strategies
  • Build and foster relationships with new target media and new and existing business partners
  • Demonstrate strong media relations and story-telling skills
  • Bring a competitive-minded approach to a fast-growth space within the industry
  • Develop executive visibility plans and manage speaking / interview engagements for key executives
  • Work with global GM Brand and Advanced Technology Communications (ATC) teams to contribute to key GM corporate narratives including electrification, safety, and citizenship
  • Develop and lead major company events and news moments including media announcements, conferences and trade shows as well as GM sponsored events
  • Support product and brand communication and substitute Director of GM Europe Brand and Product Communications during absences

Must-have Skills
  • English and German proficiency, additional European language a plus

Must-have Experience
  • BA in communications or related field
  • Corporate, start-up, issues management or editorial media experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience
Must-have Competencies
  • Not afraid to provide executive counsel and share personal point of view
