Director of the Swiss National Data & Service Center for the Humanities DaSCH

The Swiss National Data & Service Center for the Humanities DaSCH is a research infrastructure for all areas of the Humanities. As a center of excellence for digital methods and long-term usability of digital data, it supports the Humanities in the use of state-of-the-art digital research methods. Focusing on texts, images, sound, film/video and other objects, their metadata and their annotations/codings, DaSCH

  • provides tools and long-term access to Humanities’ research data,
  • supports scholars in generating new and re-using existing digital research data,
  • implements innovative solutions for scientific data processing,
  • provides education and training in digital methods to scholars, PhD-students and local research-IT groups.
As an independent association DaSCH is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF as a national research infrastructure and hosted by the University of Basel ().
By September 1st 2021, or upon agreement DaSCH is looking for a new Director. The place of work will be on the Campus Allschwil, the position will be affiliated to the University of Basel.

Your profile
Due to the retirement of its current director, DaSCH is looking for a senior scientist who is ready to meet the challenge of leading and further developing this institution. The ideal candidate for this unique position holds a doctorate e.g. in one of the disciplines of the humanities and has strong expertise in methods of digital humanities and computational sciences. She or he has around ten or more years of experience in research and research management and a solid publication record, is familiar with European and global research infrastructures for the humanities and with the Swiss higher education and research systems, a strong strategic sense and excellent communication skills. The management of DaSCH requires a high degree of leadership, which can be demonstrated by recognized professional experience, ideally in a research infrastructure, including managerial skills in human resources and financial matters.
Successful candidates are fluent in one of the national languages, German or French, as well as English, and must have good knowledge of the second national language mentioned.
