Ethicon Biosurgery, part of the Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies is recruiting for a Director, Technical Operations, that can be located in Raritan, NJ, Zug, Switzerland; or Nes-Ziona, Israel.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. was created 20 years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio, developing innovative devices that have driven the revolutionary shift from open to minimally invasive surgery that continues to lead the industry today.

Major Responsibilities

In this role, the Director of Technical Operations will lead a team of engineers and scientists focused on developing processes for New Product Introductions, Product Design changes and Complex Technical Transfers. Key areas of focus will include (1) developing talent to drive key projects, (2) driving rigorous and robust engineering discipline, (3) partner with key stakeholders; quality, R&D, manufacturing engineering to align on technologies and strategies (4) collaborate with PM across Global Surgery to drive standard business processes, (5) actively engage with the PM Biosurgery team as well as the Biosurgery Supply Chain including Internal and External Manufacturing Partners.

Scope Of Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to the Biosurgery PM organization in support of the overall NPI pipeline, Lifecycle Management (LCM) and Network programs for a $1.4B medical device business.
  • Drive key programs intended to improve our technical organization such as six sigma certification, design excellence, rotations with manufacturing sites, etc.
  • Responsible for all technical talent development with Biosurgery Product Management as well as collaboration with the rest of the Ethicon Biosurgery Supply chain, Engineering teams as well as collaborate with other Ethicon platforms
  • Recruit, develop, manage, and motivate highly trained technical professionals to ensure an effective work force
  • Steers Collaboration with internal and external partners to drive execution.
  • Aligns with R&D to drive an overall technology strategy for Biosurgery
  • Reviews and coordinates activities concerned with technical developments and resolves engineering and technical problems.
  • Manage resources effectively and help prioritize and optimize resource utilization.
  • Ensure that employees are trained and equipped with the tools to perform their jobs successfully.
  • Drive best practices in engineering design and automation.
  • Develop and manage to expense and capital budgets per our BP and Strat Plan processes.
  • Ensure compliance in all aspects of Quality and Environmental, Health and Safety per J&J standards.
  • Provide technical leadership in business development, due diligences.

Qualifications

Education
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required in an Engineering or Science related.
  • An advanced degree, such as an MS or an MBA is preferred.

Experience And Key Competencies
  • A minimum 10 years overall business experience is required
  • People Management/Talent Development experience is required.
  • Ability to develop people, manage technology, embrace financial goals and utilize customer-focused decision making.
  • Ability to lead a global team and work collaboratively cross-functionally is preferred.
  • Change management, project management, the ability to work effectively and drive alignment in a global environment through strong communication and empowerment
  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of process development and validation, including design of experiments, statistical analysis, and project management is preferred
  • Six-sigma black belt certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in bridging technical and business disciplines, evaluating and determining appropriate risks.
  • Multi-plant experience with a focus on global markets is preferred.
  • Experience with external manufacturing partners is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of continuous improvement tools, lean manufacturing and six-sigma.
  • Quality and Compliance mindset with experience in medical device or biologics manufacturing preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • This position may require up to 25 % domestic and international travel
