As the main innovation center for FPT Industrial, the site is involved in developing FPT Industrials’ future powertrain solutions (not only in electrified powertrains, hybrids and fuel cells, but also novel engines concepts and alternative fuels) and is therefore at the forefront of a transition towards a future of alternative propulsion systems.

As a member of the Battery Systems Team in the Electrified Powertrain Engineering division of FPT Industrial, you will be part of a highly skilled team driven to design and engineer best-in-class battery modules, packs and systems for FPT Industrial electrified powertrain product portfolio. You will design, develop and integrate battery packs into hybrid and full electric powertrains. You will work in a collaborative team environment. You will be contributing to the development of advanced concepts as well as their implementation for application to on-road vehicles and non-road applications.

Your tasks

• Working in a multidisciplinary team, develop and deliver best-in-class battery system designs for FPT Industrial electrified powertrain product portfolio for hybrid and full electric powertrains
• Specify battery pack requirements including performance, mechanical and structural characteristics, thermal management and electrical/mechanical interfaces
• Perform relevant design analysis
• Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends in industry, also monitoring market and competitors’ product portfolio
• Technical liaison with cell, module, battery, BMS system and component suppliers
• Supplier management when and where necessary
• Plan and supervise test series on rig (components), bench and vehicle (total system)
• Communicate results and make presentations that describe analysis and solutions
• Collaborate closely with various internal departments / laboratories and universities

Your profile

Basic Qualifications:

• You have a university degree in relevant engineering discipline, several years of experience in a similar role
• A good understanding of system and component interactions
• Experience in one or more of below;
• Design and/or specification of battery internal interconnects, electrical/electronic interfaces, generation of schematics
• BMS implementation, algorithm development, calibration, testing, diagnostics, in battery packs
• Design and/or specification of battery thermal management, cooling system, mechanical layout
• Integration of battery packs to electric powertrain applications
• Product development working with suppliers managing requirements specification, DVP and FMEA reviews
• You have good German and English skills (spoken and written), Italian skills would be an asset
• You are a highly motivated self-starter and team-player with very good communication skills
• You have good documentation skills, and feel comfortable generating reports and documentation along with presentations to communicate the work you are undertaking.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong technical understanding of battery systems and technologies
• Strong technical understanding of cell interconnects, battery internal wiring, electrical isolation, selection of electrical components (fuses, contactors, service disconnect)
• Experience with safety critical electronic product development for automotive/commercial vehicle electrified applications
• Experience with FMEA, DVP, ISO 26262 and relevant automotive/commercial vehicle standards
• Understanding of battery pack manufacturing
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
• Good technical communication skills
