What you’ll be doing here

In collaboration with ETH Zurich research group PoSE (Physics of Soils and Terrestrial Ecosystems) we offer an interesting PhD opportunity within a large international project
Your are evaluating soil structure indicators to describe soil health and contribute to the development of an EU wide soil observation system
You assess how direct measurements of such indicators may be approximated by easier to observe soil properties using existing datasets and new samples
Our group offers a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment with a strong focus on practical applications
PhD students profit from support of experienced soil survey staff, our new soil laboratory and high performance computing infrastructure

What you’ll bring with you

Master in Geography, Agronomy, Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Geology or related field
Strong interest in soil science, management and protection
Experienced with soil sampling or laboratory work
You are curious minded, a creative problem solver and independent with good organization skills
Strong communication and presentation skills and experience with statistical programming (R, Python) and machine learning would be an advantage.
English, German or French are desirable
