What you’ll be doing here

  • In collaboration with ETH Zurich research group PoSE (Physics of Soils and Terrestrial Ecosystems) we offer an interesting PhD opportunity within a large international project
  • Your are evaluating soil structure indicators to describe soil health and contribute to the development of an EU wide soil observation system
  • You assess how direct measurements of such indicators may be approximated by easier to observe soil properties using existing datasets and new samples
  • Our group offers a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment with a strong focus on practical applications
  • PhD students profit from support of experienced soil survey staff, our new soil laboratory and high performance computing infrastructure

What you’ll bring with you

  • Master in Geography, Agronomy, Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Geology or related field
  • Strong interest in soil science, management and protection
  • Experienced with soil sampling or laboratory work
  • You are curious minded, a creative problem solver and independent with good organization skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and experience with statistical programming (R, Python) and machine learning would be an advantage.
  • English, German or French are desirable
