Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI ESG Research is seeking a Senior Associate in our Zurich office to join our ESG Models team. The team is responsible for developing new methodologies and innovative frameworks to quantify environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts and risks. We are looking for a strong personality who deeply cares about issues of sustainability and their translation into finance-related metrics and who thrives in a fast-paced, fun, and challenging environment.

We are seeking an individual with strong quantitative and problem-solving skills as well as an interest in ESG issues, including how investors integrate ESG factors into their investment processes. Critical thinking, curiosity, and an ability to overcome data challenges with creative solutions are essential to thrive in this high impact role.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the improvement and maintenance of existing models used to analyze a company’s environmental and social impacts on its stakeholders specifically by identifying its involvement in ESG controversies and non-adherence to international norms and principles.
  • Apply machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, parsing tools and other data science techniques across structured and unstructured datasets to improve the effectiveness of ESG models
  • Use statistical methods, back-testing, and scenario analysis to understand, visualize and document methodology enhancements.
  • Communicate complex topics in a simple way to internal and external stakeholders not familiar with the topics
  • Work with stakeholders to identify the business requirements, understand distinct problems and expected outcomes, and model and frame innovative solutions

Your Skills And Experience That Will Help You Excel

  • 6+ years of full-time professional experience in quantitative research or data science role.
  • Minimum of Bachelors’ degree required; Advanced degree in related field (Finance, Engineering, Economics, Statistics) or CFA is preferred.
  • Experience in negative screening, assessing ESG controversies and impact would be a plus. At a minimum, candidate should have a demonstrated interest in ESG issues or reputational risk assessment
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with prior experience in data manipulation and development of quantitative models
  • Experience in working with structured and unstructured data and ability to find creative solutions to data quality challenges.
  • Advanced skills in data science, specifically Natural Language Processing and sentiment analysis, and in software development, particularly Python, are a must-have
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural and geographically distributed team.
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, and demonstrating an exceptional drive towards delivery.
