The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to lead a startup within a Fortune 50 company. In the new position of European Key Accounts Manager, you’ll be responsible for expanding Caterpillar’s presence in the European rental industry and growing rental revenue by building strong, long-term relationships with key customers.

Equipment rental is an exciting, expanding business that Caterpillar continues to invest in, as more and more customers look to The Cat Rental Store to fulfill their short- and long-term equipment needs. With more than 1,300 global locations, our network has the largest construction equipment rental fleet in the world.

The Position

The European Key Account Manager will report to the Global Rental & Used Director. Initially, you will have one direct report to help build the program, and the team will expand as the business grows. As the leader of the team, you will have a deep understanding of customer needs, develop key account strategies and achieve the annual business plan, which includes rental revenue, share of wallet and rental rate index for key accounts, while gaining dealer engagement and investment in the program.

When you join Caterpillar as the European Key Accounts Manager, your duties include:
  • Building and expanding the Key Accounts Program in Europe
  • Identifying new customer revenue opportunities and targeted customer strategies
  • Delivering the business plan for Key Accounts rental revenue, share of wallet and rental rate index
  • Maintaining and managing long-term relationships and maximizing business opportunities for Caterpillar’s largest and most loyal accounts
  • Leading and developing a team of account managers
  • Gaining dealer support, engagement and investment in the Key Accounts Program
  • Supporting aftermarket goals in machines, parts, rental, engines, technology, financial products and services.
  • Developing and negotiating agreements with key customers and working with Caterpillar’s legal team to ensure contracts meet requirements
  • Serving as an official representative of Caterpillar and building relationships between Caterpillar executive officers and key customer executives
  • Effectively communicating customer and marketplace requirements (VOC) to product groups and others within Caterpillar
  • Supporting dealers in identifying, communicating and resolving and product issues and dealer execution issues to maintain customer loyalty
  • Building strong working relationships across Caterpillar, including the distribution group, product groups, solutions groups and other support functions such as marketing, legal, finance and pricing
  • The position will require travel estimated at 30-50% of the time.
  • The employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive sales execution and marketing experience with a process orientation due to the startup work required
  • A college or university degree or equivalent experience
  • A good working understanding of the needs of customers, vendors, dealers and product groups
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to successfully influence others and achieve goals
Top Candidates Will Also Have
  • Extensive background in rental or commercial structures, contract management, marketing and merchandising programs
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar machines, application and work tool products and related services
This role is located in Geneva, Switzerland. Relocation assistance may be provided to those that are eligible.
