European Category Manager Butadiene and other Latex Binders Raw Materials (all genders)

Overview (Scope of Role)

  • You will manage the Butadiene spend in Europe and smaller Raw Material categories (currently approximately > $80mm/year). You will support the Latex Binders Business Unit and will be responsible for the supplier innovation program and sustainable sourcing of the categories in scope. You will accelerate innovation and new product development and form an important link between Procurement and Technology & Innovation (T&I).
  • The role has a strong business impact as Butadiene is a key raw material category for Trinseo’s Latex Binders business with significant impact on business profitability. As the leading supplier of styrene butadiene latex, Trinseo works with customers all over the world to deliver – and build on – an extensive range of latex binder solutions for diverse applications.
  • The role will be evolving by strengthening the relationships between Procurement and the Latex Binders business to foster cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing across businesses and teams. You will further anticipate market movements and build an integral part of informed decision making.
  • You will function as an advisor and enabler to reach Trinseo’s 2030 Sustainability Goals and drive innovation in the sustainability landscape by extending our commitments to suppliers, vendors, and value chain partners (Supplier Responsibility).
  • The position will be located in Pfaeffikon SZ, Switzerland (hybrid), and will report to the Global Procurement Director, Latex Binders.

Your Responsibilities

  • Strategic sourcing of and manage Butadiene and other key raw materials categories for the Latex Binders business
  • Coordinate and lead global Butadiene sourcing team activities; provide Butadiene market insights, trends, and forecasts to the business
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with suppliers, traders, and other internal and external stakeholders such as Supply Chain (SC) and T&I; attend industry events and conferences
  • Collaborate with the global Logistics and Supply Chain teams to manage logistical, timing and swap needs for key raw materials
  • Scouting for and monitor market progress on sustainability options for various raw materials; report progress and provide Bio and Circularity information in close collaboration with the Procurement Sustainability leads and the Sustainability Business and Services (SBS) team
  • Continue to improve raw material risk profile, observe the European cracker landscape for vulnerability; build it into risk management programs, incorporate into strategy playbooks and Supply Relationship Management (SRM) programs
  • Create roadmap for, lead and execute the global supplier innovation program for Latex Binders business; coordinate activities between suppliers, business, and T&I to accelerate innovation; support Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers (CASE) and Battery business to meet the needs for new product development and business growth

Our Requirements

  • Education: Degree in engineering, chemistry or similar
  • Work Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in either commodity procurement or buying/trading of commodities and/or buying specialty raw materials; experience in close collaboration with the T&I function; Technical Sales & Development (TS&D) background as a good basis; experience in sustainable sourcing and supplier innovation
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Analytical skills including the ability to analyze and interpret data; MS excel skills for modeling
    • Strong relationship building skills with suppliers, consultants and internal stakeholders
    • Strong communication skills with external and internal stakeholders
    • Strong negotiation and contracting skills
    • Networked thinking and acting (‘connecting the dots’)
    • Chemical index familiarity
    • Language skills: English (C1-C2); a second language preferred
