Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is co-hosted by UNEP in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). These organizations serve as the joint host of the GGKP Secretariat (www.greengrowthknowledge.org) on behalf of the GGKP Steering Committee (UNEP, GGGI, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the World Bank).
- Identifying major knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice and addressing these gaps through the promotion of collaboration and coordinated research; and
- Using world-class knowledge management and communication tools to provide practitioners, policymakers, and other experts with opportunities to access, share, and utilize green growth policy analysis, guidance, information, and data.
The Sustainable Finance Policy Effectiveness working group (SFEG) has been established under the auspices of the GFP, the International Network for Sustainable Financial Policy Insights, Research, and Exchange (INSPIRE) and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment to assess the effectiveness of different types of policy and regulatory measures for green and sustainable finance, in order to identify which measures may be most effective for a given market context.
A consultant is sought to fill the need of the GGKP to assist with the GFP’s efforts in drafting and publishing Green Finance Effectiveness Framework for the SFEG. The consultant will author the report under the supervision and direction of the GFP manager, both analysing the information from the consultations and compiling it for a publication.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
- Draft the Green Finance Effectiveness Framework according to the inputs from Committee Members and Green Finance Platform manager under the GFP’s manager direction;
- Compile information from the Sustainable Finance Policy Effectiveness working group consultations and subgroup meetings minutes and integrate them into the Green Finance Effectiveness Framework;
- Analyse information and take stock of the research on climate-related financial risks;
- Develop the publication plan and outreach strategy for the report according to the GEF-funded Aligning the financial system and infrastructure investments with sustainable development - a transformational approach communication strategy.
Skills:
- Experience working in a multicultural environment is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of sustainable finance policy and drafting skills are required.
- Analytical Skills – Experience in extracting and analyzing data across a series of different parameters from both online and offline source is desired.
Experience: A minimum of two years of accumulated academic experience closely relevant to the outlined outputs/tasks and that includes experience with sustainable finance and policy research. Prior experience with international organisations and data analysis is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
