ABOUT THIS POSITION

SCB creates, processes, analyses and/or publishes a wide variety of data as part of its business operations. The Head of Data role is a key hire who will be responsible for improving the robustness of SCB data management and working to extract from data increasingly valuable insights for SCB and its customers. They will become an expert in SCB data and the first point of contact for internal and external users with questions about SCB Data. The Head of Data will have an active interest in the SCB business and will be able to contribute to the business requirements process for new capabilities. This is a hands-on role, working across internal and 3rd party resources, inititally without direct reports, to design and deliver the SCB data agenda.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Data Operations (50%)

• Daily supervision and assurance of the collection, validation and usage of all SCB’s market and customer data. This will involve liaising directly with brokerage desks to ensure timely market assessment data is produced each trading day and customer data is maintained to high standards.
• Monitoring operational data processes and responding to incidents. Problem solving issues related to data, escalating to IT or development resources when required.
• Using hands-on data skills to producing ad-hoc data extracts, analysis or reports to meet specific one-off needs of SCB senior management.
• Be the expert on SCB data for internal and external contacts. Liase directly with external parties to help them understand SCB data including the usage of SCB APIs.
• Working with SCB compliance to ensure SCB meets all its legal requirements around data security, privacy and governance.

Data Product Management/Strategy (50%)

• Developing and maintaining a consistent SCB data model and dictionary.
• Working with SCB senior management to design PowerBI reports and then deliver those reports via 3rd party resources building a high value library of SCB reports.
• Designing, specifying and project managing internal and 3rd party delivered data projects to improve SCB data management and/or insight generation.
• Testing new data and report deliverables from 3rd parties for quality and accuracy.
• Helping to identify and develop innovation project proposals to extract value from SCB and external data sources, for example, by using analytical techniques and/or machine learning.
• Maintaining an SCB data roadmap.

• Clear written and verbal communication
• Results-oriented with personal accountability and attention to detail.
• Excellent hands-on knowledge of Excel, Power BI and SQL.
• Willing to learn the SCB business in detail.

Beneficial/desired skills and competencies:

• Experience of Azure serverless data processing, data analytics and/or machine learning capabilities. Experience of other cloud data services such as Snowflake and AWS capabilities.
• Programming with Python, JavaScipt or other professional development language.
• Prior financial market data management experience.
• Knowledge of regulatory environment around data.
• Knowledge of Dynamics 365 (particularly Operations and Finance) and Jira.

Qualifications

• An accomplished data professional with at least 5 years’ experience delivering data projects, operating data processes, producing data dictionaries, designing data models and delivering data insight.
