The company

In this role, you will work for a mid size medical device company, with a strong international presence in Switzerland, Germany and China. This medical device manufacturer is the market leader in its field, enjoying strong partnerships with some of the world’s most renowned medtech companies, as well as designing and developing its own products. Owing to a dynamic acquisition strategy, this company has enjoyed fast paced growth and is entering the next (exciting!) phase of its expansion journey.

The role

This is a team management role, leading a team dedicated to Quality Engineering (e.g. NRC, Process Validation, test method validation, scrap rate, concessions) and Quality control activities (test plan, design transfer, test equipment management), for an important medical device manufacturing company in St Gallen.

This role reports to the Site Quality Director. This is a role that blends technical know-how and leadership across the areas of Quality Control and Quality Engineering and is responsible for ensuring that the quality system requirements covering these areas are maintained in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO13485.

You will manage a team of quality engineers; being accountable for their results and their development. You’ll also be the bridge between the “shop floor” quality in the production, and your partners; Internally: manufacturing, R&D, labs, procurement. Externally: other international company sites.

Responsibilities

• In this role as Head of Quality Control, you’ll be responsible for ensuring business continuity by proposing solutions to solve production quality issues without compromising on product quality and whilst implementing a long term improvement strategy
• Together with your team, you will master and lead the following processes:
• Quality Control (inspection test plans, execution)
• Acceptance activities (incoming, in-process, final)
• NCR management and execution of the final disposition (e.g. scrap, rework/sort)
• Final Release
• Test Equipment management
• Be part of Design transfer activities (related to NPD or changes to existing products) to implement the QC approach
• Manage, mentor and drive your team to achieve their goals, problem solving, removing roadblocks/ bottlenecks,
• You’ll be responsible for prioritising the different quality engineering topics, and assessing risks according to business needs
• Guide the team to deliver results in a timely manner whilst also rolling up your sleeves and being “hands on” and leading by example as a SME.
• Anticipate, communicate and escalate any quality issues/conflicts to the Site quality director, partnering with stakeholders, negotiating, and proposing reasonable and compliant solutions/alternatives
• Build a trustworthy and cooperative relationship with the other functions within the company (e.g. OPS, R&D,..)
• Managing the team’s Budget and cost controlling

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following:

• 4+ years experience in a quality Engineering/Control role in the medical device industry, in quality operations
• Engineering degree
• Fluent German and English
• Solution orientated approach to quality
