Institute for Pathology and Molecular Pathology Project Manager: Swiss Digital Pathology Initiative (SDPI)
100 %Digital pathology (DP) is a growing medical field which makes tissue morphology accessible at unprecedented scales for algorithm and biomarker development. The Swiss Digital Pathology Initiative (SDPI) aims to develop a unified national DP infrastructure which brings together the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) with Swiss university hospitals and subsequent inclusion of cantonal and private institutions. The SDPI consortium represents all five Swiss Universities, the VetSuisse faculties, SPHN driver project leaders, as well as key stakeholders of professional medical societies. We are recruiting an experienced project manager with an IT background for the SDPI preparation phase with potential to transition into the national project lead under the Swiss Roadmap for Research Infrastructures of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

Your responsibilities

As the SDPI Project Manager, your responsibilities will be to conceptually develop the SDPI IT systems architecture and infrastructure design in synergy with the SDPI steering committee and technology-consulting partners. You will initialize the development of the SDPI FAIR data management principles, carry out surveys of technical state of the art solutions, prepare technical documentation and tender documents, and develop standard operating procedures in synergy with the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN). You will have national and international exposure to cutting-edge data infrastructures, survey the status-quo at the SDPI partner institutions and will further initialize connections of SDPI with national societies and international partner networks. The long-term goal of this position is to transition into the national SDPI project lead with extended financial, project leadership, and personnel responsibilities for the SDPI operating phase. The current SDPI Project Manager scope is anticipated to last 20 months, with subsequent SDPI Project Lead to last the duration of the 5+ years of SDPI roll-out, and continue afterward into the sustainability and maintenance phases.

Your profile

  • 5+ years of experience in project management
  • Technical background. A strong understanding of Hospital IT systems, communication, standards, and interoperability frameworks.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent preferred; project managers with a strong background in technical product development and roll-out are also highly encouraged to apply
  • Understanding of biomedical image data, especially histopathological images or prior experience in digital pathology is advantageous.
  • Experience in statistical data analysis and visualization
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization
  • Background in coordinating multi-stakeholder projects; knowledge of Swiss medical landscape is advantageous
  • Experience building and leading project management teams
  • Strong analytical, communication and writing skills
  • Excellent English language skills are required

We offer an interdisciplinary project management position connecting digital pathology with bioengineering and clinical science, localized at the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Pathology, University of Zurich.
