Global Category Manager IM&S (80-100%)

In November 2020, ABB announced the planned divestment of its Turbocharging Division. Turbocharging is a successful and profitable Division in a mature market and has been for long a highly self-reliant business within ABB. ABB has decided to take this step, acknowledging that for Turbocharging to realize its full potential going forward, a new setup is required. As the next step, alternative ownership options, including a spin-off to the Swiss stock market, will be assessed, considering value for customers, ABB and the future of the turbocharging business. In this role you will develop, plan and implement IM&S Category strategy focused on optimizing costs, quality, delivery, reliability and risk mitigation for suppliers and supplied products & services. You will ensure timely execution in accordance with Company, SCM and Supply base Management instructions and procedures You will be reporting to the Global Head of Supply & Value Chain Excellence, based in Baden, Switzerland. Your responsibilities

  • Support the build-up of the PATU (Process Automation Turbocharging) IM&S organization globally and ensure business continuity during & after the carve out process
  • Develop a depth of category knowledge to implement effective sourcing strategies in line with PATU SCM strategy, ensuring that the supply base/suppliers have the capability and capacity to meet current and future business requirements. Ensures all relevant parties understand strategies and execute processes accordingly
  • Actively drive continuous improvement to ensure highest productivity, achieve year-on-year cost savings with state-of-the-art supplier on-time delivery.
  • Negotiate agreements with main suppliers, and periodically renews price lists, terms and conditions
  • Adapts corporate contractual framework to the local business needs. Recommends frame agreements to management, and executes upon approval. Provides ongoing oversight and contract management with suppliers.
  • Ensures identification, investigation, and selection of appropriate suppliers (focusing on quality, delivery, cost and sustainability) in accordance with Company policies. Defines and establishes local standard agreements with all major suppliers.
  • Partner and drive collaboration with key internal & external stakeholders to successfully implement sourcing strategies
  • Drive supplier relationship management with key vendors to provide value-add gains such as innovation, cost, process and specification process improvements
  • Accountable for IM&S performance (e.g. Productivity / TCO based cost competitiveness and reductions / Supplier Quality / On-time delivery / Speed of resolution)

Your background

  • University degree Master of Science in Engineering or Economics
  • Proven track record in comparable position of 5-10 years. Significant experience in supply chain management, especially in Indirect Materials and Services. Additionally in sourcing, category management, purchasing, commercial know-how, experience in contract management and negotiations, tools & processes development, supplier quality development, project and change management, problem solving
  • Analytical capabilities to perform analyses on spend and market data, and supplier proposals
  • Excellent leadership skills and collaboration with various stakeholders
  • Pro-active, entrepreneurial and strong decision maker
  • International exposure with multi-functional, matrix environment and intercultural experience
  • Experience in digitization and sustainability preferred
  • Good communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Good networking and social skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English, German is an asset
