The Position

We are a global IT department with headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, an IT Hub in Barcelona, Spain and Satellite offices in Indianapolis, Mannheim, Singapore, Brazil, Poland and China.

Our scope is all IT infrastructure and business systems excluding Product IT and Engineering which is managed by our R&D and Manufacturing functions. The domain areas we cover include{{:}} Commercial systems; Product Lifecycle Management (e.g. R&D, Manufacturing, Quality & Medical Affairs) systems; and the back office Global Partnering systems (e.g. Finance; Procurement; Legal and HR).

We are a heavily outsourced organisation and so our internal IT department needs to be able to manage and work with internal and external partners effectively to provide quality services for operations, development and technical solution and design functions.

We support a highly regulated business with Data Integrity and Security a key component of our work.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the role is to drive the IT organisation to become a true business partner supporting our integrated Personalised Diabetes Management (iPDM) Strategy. You will ensure that the IT Organisation remains lean and fit for purpose, and you will maximise the value of external partnerships to meet our goals.

Your key accountabilities include{{:}}
  • Strategy{{:}} drive and own the RDC IT Strategy aligned fully to the iPDM Strategy
  • Resource Management{{:}} drive a strong accountability culture. Recognise opportunities, act quickly and deliver at pace. Good at working across boundaries to ensure efficient ways of working
  • Business Partnership{{:}} build enduring relationships of trust with our business partners, while ensuring Employees and Users have a consistent experience of the IT organisation
  • Innovation{{:}} generate ideas with impact. Promote innovative thinking with our IT colleagues, our key Vendors and Key Business Partners. Application of technology (automation) to repetitive, manual processes.
  • Data Governance{{:}} support the control of master and reference data using tools for management and distribution to applications. Define record sets and locations for internal and external (GDPR, CCPA) regulation. Automate data lifecycle management including archiving, deletion and subject access requests
  • Promote Design Thinking{{:}} create a new capability to design technology services for fast and consistent delivery. Create internal knowledge of processes - data - integration of ‘plug-and-play’ components. Abstract data and integration to reduce dependencies on specific applications
  • Quality and Compliance{{:}} ensure compliance with Roche quality standards for documentation and processes. Balance the need for Speed and Innovation with quality of deliverables. Search for opportunities for compliance process improvements. Improving project management benefits realisation (meet financial and deadline targets)
  • Information Security{{:}} continuous reduction of risk of data breach by removing data islands and moving to ‘data-by-API’ design. Proactively search for weaknesses in data storage and data access (automate searches). Adapt to evolving data residency laws
  • Life Cycle Management{{:}} proactively manage our applications and ecosystems. Constantly looking for opportunities to simplify our IT environment, decommissioning old technologies and looking for opportunities to consolidate into existing Ecosystems

Key Performance Indicators will include user experience and financial targets, as well as agreed and aligned goals in the above mentioned areas of accountability.

Who You Are
You are energetic and eager to grow and learn in a fast-paced environment where cross-functional teamwork is paramount to achieving results. You have worked in an organisation with heavily-outsourced IT services that includes design, operations and maintenance. You have technical experience in developing enterprise strength systems and then influencing key decision makers at all levels.

In addition, you bring the following skills and competencies{{:}}
  • Strong leadership skills with well-balanced orchestration and influencing skills to build credibility with peers, partners, and vendors (at all levels of the organisation) to drive action
  • Strong IT & business acumen, navigates ambiguity, manages complexity
  • Ability to bring people together to work towards the same purpose across organisation boundaries
  • Intellectual curiosity and integrity and a strong passion to bring value-add to the business
  • Experience in executing IT Programs/Projects from conception through launch. Experience with digital solutions and services is a plus
  • Broad working knowledge of existing and emerging technologies including IT infrastructure, IT security and application ecosystems such as Salesforce and SAP
  • Design thinking approach, bringing empathy, creativity, insights from data, and logical reasoning to solve complex problems
  • Prepared to take ’progressive risk’—not thrill-seeking, but risk that leads to opportunity
  • Entrepreneurial mindset. You are motivated by achievement in the face of tough obstacles
  • Previous experience in providing IT solutions and Services in a regulated environment

The preferred location is Basel, Switzerland.
