Summary

As a key member of the Global NMD team within the world-wide medical organization function, the Biogen Intercontinental Region (BIR) ALS Medical Lead (Associate Director) is responsible for representing the team, with a focus on BIR-specific needs and opportunities in a cross-functional setting. This will require a wide range of internal cross- and intra-functional as well as cross-geographical stakeholder collaboration and coordination (e.g. Affiliate teams, Clin Dev, Regulatory, GSRS, Value and Access, Commercial) to guide on, plan and execute according deliverables relevant for the BIR Medical function. A key initial focus of this role is on pre-launch activities and to adequately plan and execute the ALS Medical Launch. Some of the key deliverables are: expanded access program execution, data generation and dissemination plans, medical information, education and internal training. Additionally, this role also requires appropriate external stakeholder partnerships for medical science and expertise (including thought leader/medical experts; research centers, investigators, etc.), with a special emphasis on BIR real-world medical needs and health care setting conditions in the various BIR geographies, in alignment with the Global Medical strategy.

What You’ll Do
  • Support planning and execution on Medical Launch readiness for ALS assets as well as developing Regional medical strategic imperatives and a communication framework in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.
  • Support as a key Global Medical contact for important cross-functional partners (Global Medical, Commercial, Market Access, PAGs, Affiliates), establishing strong partnerships. Provide medical expertise to and lead cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Represent Global Medical at other cross-functional meetings as needed.
  • Ensure key communication priorities and data gaps are captured from a regional and affiliate perspective and adequate execution of regional specific communication activities
  • As a content expert, reviews abstracts, publications, medical information letters, internal/external educational materials, and other medical documents as needed.
  • Support planning and development for BIR KME engagement and other Medical initiatives for internal and external engagement (scientific external materials, medical training, medical communication), in accordance with the specific regional needs
  • Collaborate with affiliates medical representatives and Global Medical to understand key insights that may be relevant to clinical trials, data general efforts and data communication, including the execution of Regional Ad Boards
  • Execution of key activities to ensure adequate scientific education and exchange with the goal of informing adequate treatment decisions

Qualifications

  • MD, PhD, or other advanced degree in the life sciences is required
  • Min 5+ years of experience within a medical affairs role in Pharmaceutical industry, prior experience in managing APAC + Japan, Middle East, Russia, Turkey, and LatAm markets is preferred
  • Experience with neurology, business development, medical affairs
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of disease area,

  • multiple different health care systems/market dynamics, regulations, policies and SOPs, health economic techniques and trends

  • Broad experience in interaction with health authorities
  • Demonstrated strategic approach to implementation of
  • scientific communication programs on disease areas and treatments
  • Ability to effectively operate in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and project management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and solve complex and challenging problems.
  • Excellent communication (particularly both written and oral), leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with Global and/or affiliate medical to ensure regional activities are executed in alignment with global medical strategy and ensuring the insights and needs are known and properly addressed
  • Track record of KME engagement experience and is seen as a peer by tier 1 KMEs
  • Has demonstrated leadership skills and acquired
