Glencore Copper is seeking a Global Safety Principal to support the growth and development of our global Copper Portfolio to be based at our Baar office in Switzerland.

The Global Health & Safety team is a recently established function supporting existing and future operations and projects. The team is fundamental in delivering best practice Health & Safety performance and long-term strategy at our assets, as well as enabling Glencore’s robust H&S plans.

This role represents a significant opportunity to work in a high-performance team while supporting world class operations and projects globally.

The Opportunity

The role will provide leadership, support and guidance on the implementation and compliance with respect to Glencore Fatal Hazard Protocols (FHP), Safety Standards, Incident Management process, Critical Control verification process, Proactive Safety activity, strategy and governance.

In this role you will

  • Participate and actively contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental procedures, operational goals and targets related to Safety & Crisis Preparedness.
  • Deliver the Glencore Fatal Hazard Protocols (FHP), Safety Standards, Incident Management Process, Critical Control verification process, Proactive Safety activity, strategy and governance to the regions.
  • Provide coaching and support to assets on implementation.
  • Support the development of safety programs across the assets, including leadership.
  • Implement/undertake assurance activities to ensure safety hazards are being adequately managed across the Copper Division, inclusive of projects.
  • Be a safety leader for the Global Copper Division focused on improving safety management and capability across the Copper Assets.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the investigation and reporting on relevant H&S incidents.
  • Determine safety key performance indicators and targets and embed them into relevant Asset, Region and Department assurance routines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Suitable tertiary qualifications preferable in Engineering or technical disciplines.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in safety management roles and Safety Risk Management in the resources or energy sector.
  • Must have an understanding of technical aspects and major risks across the mining industry.
  • Demonstrated success in a role of similar complexity with a focus on strategy across multiple discipline work streams and locations.
  • Detailed understanding of the relevant commodity’s value chain and safety trends.
  • Effective in working with diverse teams and sensitive to local social, political and cultural realities.
  • Ability to travel globally and to sites. Estimate a three-to-four-week trip per quarter, depending on needs.
  • Advanced English language skills.
