Fixed-term position for 4 years

CSEM is developing two Photonics Integrated Circuits (PIC) Platforms: Photonics-MEMS Platform based on SiN (Silicon Nitride) and a LNOI (Lithium Niobate On Insulator) PIC platform for applications ranging from telecommunication, sensing and quantum technology. These developments are specially funded by 6 EU projects (H2020 and Horizon Europe) and 3 national one (SNF and InnoSuisse).

Your mission

You will be responsible for the administrative coordination of these public funded grants in Integrated Photonics as well as on some of the reporting follow-up of technical parts.

Your responsibilities
  • Follow-up with legal and accounting on the preparation of the grant (Consortium Agreement, Grant Agreement, Internal financial tools, SERI request, CRM, MySNF, EU Portal, ....)
  • Follow-up of the deliverables and milestones in each project
  • Participation to the reports (technical and administrative): preparation of the draft of the various reports for deliverable and milestones (filling the nontechnical parts and dispatching the technical parts to the team) as well as proofreading
  • Organization of Work Packages under the responsibility of CSEM
  • Updating and keeping up with Microsoft Team channels, project website and social media as well as taking minutes/action points in meetings
  • Creating a summarized dashboard of action points for each project and tracking the progress
  • Organization of the meetings with regards to these project (organization of travel arrangements, organization of meeting when CSEM is the organizer)
  • Keeping and updating the technical teams at CSEM as well as keeping a constant connection with the projects partners (more than 40 compagnies and institutes across Europe)
  • Attending and participating as CSEM representative on the projects reviews meeting and general assemblies (5-6 international travels per year is foreseen).

Your profile

Know-how
  • Good background in Physics (preferably in optic, photonics), with typically a bachelor/master degree
  • Good Project Management and organization skills
  • Excellent technical writing skills (reports and grants)
  • Background in legal (NDA, Consortium Agreement) aspect is asset

Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, but willing to perform and develop within a team
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills in English (French is an asset)

Your mission

As an intern in the Sample Handling and Sensing group, you will support all activities in the Life Science Technologies area with a focus on microfluidics, sample handling, and lab automation for in-vitro diagnostics, Organ-on-a-Chip, and regenerative medicine applications. Examples of current and past projects include OrganTrans (organoids, robotics, and microfluidics), Moore4Medical (microfluidics and biosensing), and BioCDx (diagnostics and microfluidics). Within the strategic goals of the group, you will contribute to the development of disruptive technologies. The work will be primarily engineering, but in close collaboration with biologists, chemists, and physicists (may involve travel to other CSEM sites).

We are looking for an intern to support us in:
  • Implementation, testing, and biovalidation of prototype systems, specifically with regards to design, fabrication, testing, image acquisition, and sample handling.
  • Design, fabrication / prototyping, and assembly of prototype systems
  • Performing of validation experiments for prototype systems
  • Analysis of resultant data and preparation of presentations summarizing the results

Your profile

Know-how
  • Strong background in a life science-related field (e.g. engineering, physics, biology, chemistry)
  • Wet lab experience
  • Experience with fluidics and / or cell handling systems
  • Rapid prototyping (e.g. 3D printing, micromilling, hot embossing), CAD (e.g. SolidWorks)
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong English-speaking skills required, German and / or French-speaking skills a plus
