Founded in 2004 by a group of PhD students as a spin-off from the University of Zurich, Molecular Partners AG is a thriving and steadily growing clinical stage biotech company located in Zurich-Schlieren (Switzerland) with 160 highly qualified employees. In order to advance modern medicine and significantly improve the management of serious diseases, we have developed and successfully established a powerful new class of potent, specific and versatile small protein therapies, called DARPin® therapeutics. The continuous development of a broad portfolio of therapeutic product candidates in oncology and ophthalmology based on the company’s proprietary DARPin® platform allowed a successful listing of the company on the SIX Swiss Exchange (ticker: MOLN). Next to our own pipeline of drug candidates we have entered into collaborations with leading international pharmaceutical companies, including AbbVie, Amgen and Novartis. The highly dedicated, multi-disciplined team at MP is committed to developing breakthrough medicines for serious diseases.

We are looking for a Head of IT that oversees all IT activities and operations at Molecular Partners. The responsibilities include leading the IT department and its employees, driving the IT strategy, developing / implementing solutions that meet these requirements and are aligned with Molecular Partners objectives, thereby enhancing digitalization as well as liaising with other departments to advice on technological platforms.

This challenging and diverse position will include the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a short- and long-term IT vision on Molecular Partners application landscape, infrastructure & operations based on the business’ current and anticipated needs and requirements;
  • Set the aspiration andco-develop the digital strategy together with different business stakeholder considering e.g. RPA, AI, Augmented reality, omnichannel for the data lake strategy for Molecular Partners digital agenda with the big picture in mind,
  • Drive IT excellence projects and introduce innovative, differentiating infrastructure and operations capabilities that enhance the overall competitive abilities of our IT infrastructure and enhance employee productivity;
  • Identifying vulnerabilities, the need for upgrades, and opportunities for improvement and ensure Disaster/Business Interruption recovery/data backup is part of all IT activities and that a proper plan is established, maintained, and tested for key functions;
  • Build up and expand sustainable, trusted as well as successful stakeholder relationships (e.g. leadership team, IT and business leaders or vendors etc.) to establish a clear understanding of business needs to act as a trusted advisor ensuring cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs;
  • Preparing financial budgets and performance reports and manage IT activities according to established budget and financials constraints;
  • Manage, lead, and coach the IT team to enhance not only their productivity but also their skill set;
  • Ready to support the IT team with “hands-on” activities if needed, solid knowledge and leadership skills in overseeing challenging situations.

For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated individual bringing along:

  • Degree in computer science or equivalent (MA or BSc) is a must and further education in IT frameworks (e.g. ITIL, CGEIT, CISSP, TOGAG, …) as well as an MBA is desirable;
  • Minimum of 15 years’ of national and international experience with at least 5 to 7 years as IT Director (budgeting responsibility and reporting into CEO/CFO), preferably in a similar position/environment;
  • Previous experience in supporting Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance in a publicly traded organization;
  • Experience with digitalizing departments combined with the understanding of IT constraints from a small to a large size company and the growing process in-between;
  • Strong leadership skills to not only manage but grow, coach and mentor the IT team;
  • A strong negotiator with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build a trustworthy internal and external network, e.g. with leadership team, vendors, etc.;
  • A team player with an entrepreneurial mindset, can-do attitude and high security awareness, quality standards and conceptual understanding combined with good analytical skills and fast comprehension;
  • Proficiency in English (orally/written) is mandatory, German/Swiss German would be an asset.
