For our Site in Visp, we’re currently looking for a Head of Energy (m/w/d). This role has overall responsibility for the strategic, effective and efficient setup and provision of the energy (electricity/gas/CO2) supply and energy management of all energies in a changing environment for the Visp site. The role aims to support the corporate growth of Lonza, to reduce the cost structure of energy and waste disposal facilities, to optimize the value stream and ecological footprint as well as contribute to the implementation of the sustainability goals of the site and company. Leading and coordinating the team, including the development of appropriate energy procurement and maintenance strategies, projects, guidelines and investments. Leadership, training, motivation/challenge and development/coaching of the employees are very important parts of this position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates the organization of Power supply and energy management of all energies and ensures maximum availability for all production plants at the site (security / environment / costs / availability / quality)
    • Develops and implements strategies for energy supply for site development according to the requirements of the segments
    • Develops and implement concepts and lead projects to ensure the operation and maintenance of the electrical High- / medium voltage grid
    • Responsible for the electrical assets over the entire life cycle
    • Develops appropriate energy procurement strategies, management of resources, projects, concepts and investments in a changing environment
    • Close cooperation with external parties for long-term strategic solutions for supplying the site with energy and infrastructure solutions, researching new business models and developing and negotiating appropriate contracts
    • Training, increasing awareness and development/ coaching of employees – ensure and improve the level of technical and economic competences
    • Ensures optimal cooperation with the production plants
    • Ensures the compliance with safety and environmental requirements
  • Coordination and optimization of the energy value stream (procurement, production, distribution, conversion, application, recovery) with the aim of a secure, long-term, adequate, affordable and reliable energy supply
    • Identifies opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of business processes and systems
    • Active design and implementation of continuous improvements
    • Support the business units and service centers in technical, economic and ecological matters related to energy and its procurement.
  • Monitoring of legislation in the energy sector. Drafting of relevant measures for the potential consequences for the Visp site
    • Lobbying of municipal, cantonal and federal authorities as well as politicians on issues of energy and CO2 policy as well as legislation
    • Central contact person for promoting of cooperation with local and federal authorities and associations in all areas concerning of energy and CO2 (BfE, BAFU, ESTI, scienceindustries, economiesuisse, GGS, IGEB, …)
  • Live the vision and culture of the company and cultivates the exchange of information, economic, ecologic and technical know-how to the team members. Performing on-call service for Power Supply

Key requirements:

  • University / Polytechnic degree as Electrical engineer / EMBA
  • Fluent in German, English and French advantageous
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance and development of electrical high- and medium voltage grids
  • Profound work experience within the energy sector
  • Independent and flexible, enjoys interdisciplinary work
  • Team player, role model, coach and networker
  • High Communicative & Diplomatic skills on all hierarchic levels
  • Contract negotiation experience and expertise at high level
