BACKGROUND
IUCN is a membership base organization with over 1,500 Member organizations from States, government agencies, Sub-national authorities, NGOs as well as Indigenous People’s Organizations. In addition, IUCN has over 18,000 volunteer Commission Members. The Head of Membership and Commission Support is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for IUCN to grow and retain the membership base, through providing a clear value proposition for each of the different categories of Members, coordinating membership services, set and propose strategic directions for Member engagement, and measure progress.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Develop and coordinate the implementation and refinement of IUCN Member recruitment and engagement strategies and annual priorities, including all aspects of membership activities, services and communications.
- Work together with regional offices and thematic centres to develop clear value proposition for the different types of members and identify strategic opportunities to strengthen recruitment as well as engagement with existing members.
- Coordinate and provide support to implement secretariat wide membership recruitment and engagement strategy, including the coordination of the Membership Focal Point Network and membership communications strategy.
- Lead the unit to streamline and simplify all processes related to membership (application, invoicing, sponsorships at convenings etc) in accordance with IUCN Statutes.
- Provide clear, concise and insightful written analyses and recommendations for membership growth and stronger engagement, including keeping abreast of global trends on membership-based organizations.
- Develop and improve tools and frameworks that would support better membership engagement and recruitment activities, including a potential digital Member zone, country profiles, and membership application processes etc.
- Facilitate the strengthening of links between Members, Commissions and the Secretariat via streamlined communication efforts and clear strategic engagement/communications framework.
- Develop membership engagement measurement framework and tools to support engagement and recruitment strategy.
- Implement the resolutions adopted related to membership and commissions, together with other relevant units and under the guidance of the Executive Board when required.
- Work closely with the Convenings Unit to communicate, engage and collaborate with Members and Commission members on key IUCN convenings.
- Develop annual plans and budget for the Membership and Commission Support unit.
- Oversee the work of the Commission Support Unit and provide guidance when required.
- Work closely with the Governance Unit with clear roles and responsibilities for issues related to memberships.
- Lead the unit to successful membership engagement and growth and to provide membership related support to the whole secretariat.
The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee’s responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group.
REQUIREMENTS
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is CHF 134’355, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN’s compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
