About the role :

The Head of Site Automation engineering is
  • A member of the site engineering leadership team
  • Accountable for managing the site automation engineering staff and its interfaces with the other site engineering function as well as non-engineering interfaces
  • Operationalizes the Takeda Automation Strategy & its programs and ensures fit4purpose for the site and the overall site masterplan
  • Enforce automation harmonization & standardization based on strategic drivers
  • Implements CapEx projects as an Automation SME
How You Will Contribute
  • Lead the site Automation team with vision, purpose and focus on core services that Automation provides to the site
  • Develop a strategic workforce setup on site delivering the following mission critical roles, skills and deliveries in the field of: Automation Data Engineering & Governance, Automation Cybersecurity & Data Integrity Compliance, Automation Solution & System Engineering, Automation & OT System Support.
  • Drive aspects of modern automation (state-of-the art/emerging automation system technology and shopfloor data integration (connectivity & communication))
  • You are the Business and System Owner Funtion for Automation & control systems, including administrative ownership for Functional Level 0-3 systems (control systems & the data there of)
  • You ahve a solid understanding of the IT4OT infratstructure (hosting & network) practices/procedures needed to keep the IT4OT infrastructure of such control systems operable and can advise IT service departments accordingly
  • You can define SLA requirements with internal (e.g. IT4OT infrastructure (secure hosting & network services) & external service providers (Automation system integrators and Automation vVendors and can keep traction of corresponding KPI fullfillments for his department.
  • Operate a modern and risked-based obsolescence management approach for disruptive and incremental change management in automation system replacement
  • Ensure end2end realtime shopfloor data automation & historization concepts
  • Build a solid site automation strategy based from the Takeda Global Automation Strategy and its programs to drive Takeda’s Automation vision/ambition to ensures uninterrupted operation by utilizing modern automation technology at competitive cost and lean run-&-maintain level to fully extend the Takeda Digital Backbone onto the shop floor
  • Align the site’s strategic automation roadmap with the regional/OpU Automation Leads and other site stakeholders
  • Align the Automation CapEx portfolio with the the regional/OpU Automation Leads and other stakeholders
  • Participate in the regional/OpU Automation Communities of Practice and Global Communitiy of Practice/Center of Excellence for Automation Engineering
  • Ensure the compliance with automation standards, guidelines, GxP compliance and automation cybersecurity
  • Ensure overall compliance with Takeda’s QMS & Change Control
  • Review and approves key project documents with regard to Automation especially in FEED and Site Engineering CAPEX projects in order to ensure compliance with global & local Auotmation standards
  • Liaise between Manufacturing and Facility clients and external engineering and vendor resources in the conceptual design, detailed design, specification, procurement, construction, commissioning, and qualification of automation systems for CGMP production facilities.
  • Assist with the automation teams on SME level and provide direction & oversight in various stages of the engineering project lifecycle from conceptual design, detailed design, specification, implementation, commissioning, qualification, trouble-shooting and continuous improvement of automation and control systems (process, utilities, facilities).
  • You are responsible to provide business/delivery performance metrics & updates for the strategic programs & the Automation CapEx performance to the regional/OpU Automation Leads as well as the Global Strategic Program Leaders and site stakeholders
  • Provide engineering expertise and direction to employees and contractors to meet project and support schedules and financial goals while ensuring technical success.
  • Perform regular project reviews, provides technical and test expertise for embedded Automation & Control Systems to process engineering and Engineering Services for process & control system CQV/CSV
  • Participate in (and adheres to) Site and Global Validation programs to support regulatory requirements for Automation systems, both equipment and computer system, including all Data Integrity aspects for those systems.
  • Own all Automation originating Deviations/CAPA as a system owner for Automation & Control Systems; supports Manufacturing Equipment owners as Automation SME for deviation/CAPAs of equipment embedded controls/automation.Assess, analyze, advise, propose, and direct improvements that will deliver greater productivity, capacity, reliability, and compliance for the Automation Department.
  • Engage with the Takeda and external network, such as global engineering, manufacturing sites, industry forums and subject matter experts to drive continuous innovation. Be aware of technology automation trends and benchmarks in the industry. Benchmark against peers so that Takeda site is in-line with industry
  • Support Manufacturing and Operations by providing strategic direction and tactical support. Troubleshoot day-to-day issues originating from Automation Engineering, i.e. shopfloor integration / communication issues between source and consuming systems, as well as the Control System Landscape Systems.
  • Participate in and facilitate the harmonization and coordination of efforts between other teams such as Validation, Manufacturing, Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing Services, R&D, EHS and Regulatory.
  • Provide leadership to assess and provide guidance on a risk -based QMS and change control approach in Automation Engineering to the team and major stakeholders
  • Establishe, develop, and drive Good Engineering Practices in all projects undertaken and support services provided. Utilize standard methodologies that have been established for project and portfolio management as well as supporting maintenance work order management.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulatory GMP, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Interface with regulatory agency representative (e.g. FDA/EMA) as the site Automation SME during internal and external audits and shall be able to defend current practices to such agencies.
  • Lead and manage a group of automation engineers and represent the automation engineering function to other partner groups such as IT, Quality, Validation; Manufacturing, Facilities, Global Engineering and Global Automation, ensuring the quality of work and appropriate resources are in place to support ongoing initiatives, operations and projects requiring Automation Support
  • Develop & nurture core competencies of the automation SMEs at sites to ensure technical capabilities are built and that knowledge and experience are maintained.
  • Coache, motivate, develop, recognizes and mentor the automation & engineering staff, including senior level engineers and managers. Being a mentor developing future leaders.
What You Bring To Takeda
  • Education: Bachelor plus 12 years min experience or Master deree and 8 years experience in Automation Engineering (process, data, equipment, facility automation) or electromechanical/chemical engineering with main subject of Automation Engineering (process, data, equipment, facility automation)
  • Proven track record of automation systems and data integration
  • Very good knowledge of proven industrial automation technologies and experience in emerging (Industry 4.0) technologies & how to apply these in pharmaceutical automation concepts
  • Strong automation cybersecurity knowhow & industrial networking experience
  • General knowledge in Digital/Data Science and its enabling concepts
  • Data Integrity Trouble Shooting & GxP knowledge, good pharmaceutical experience
