Job Overview

The Head of Sustainability is responsible to drive the definition and further development of the overall sustainability strategy for SHL Medical. In addition, he or she is responsible to develop, oversee and execute all Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives together with the affected parts of the organization.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure strategic alignment, standardization, and harmonization of the SHL Medical approach to sustainability and development and maintenance of the respective sustainability and ESG roadmap
  • Make sure that external regulations, trends and customer needs are recognized, analyzed and insights developed which matters to SHL and have to be considered in the internal sustainability and ESG strategy
  • Review and monitor the overall product portfolio of SHL Medical through the entire life cycle with regards to sustainability
  • Coordinate with product management, development, operations and commercial teams to prepare roadmaps to strategic sustainability and ESG needs in appropriate time and quality
  • Create and implement processes for prioritization, stakeholder feedback and reviews to input into the sustainability and ESG roadmap
  • Define the scope, specifications and content of work packages and projects, set timelines, and manage the development and validation efforts to those timelines
  • Work with Supply Chain and Operations to understand the carbon footprint of SHL’s products
  • Drive the use of market research to identify opportunities, regulatory and technology trends that can or need to be considered in the roadmap
  • Closely work with Business Development, Sales and R&D to define needs for next generation products in the context of sustainability
  • Contribute to SHL’s DE&I strategy and related projects and activities in collaboration with Corporate Human Resources
  • Provide cross functional leadership to define and execute the sustainability & ESG strategy
  • Share technical, procedural, and business knowledge with others
  • Contribute to continually improve product development processes to consider current and upcoming sustainability and ESG requirements
  • Analyze performance metrics and effectively present data to stakeholders
Skills And Qualification
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related fields
  • Major work experience in a similar role, ideally in the regulated medical device market
  • Strong knowledge about sustainability needs and trends in the healthcare sector, specifically in drug delivery
  • Reputation for being a collaborative thought partner and business leader, with ability to orchestrate, organize and motivate work across multiple team boundaries
  • Experienced in working in a global matrix organization with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Good strategic planning skills and change management / transformational experience
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and down-to-earth personality with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and to work well in a high-pressure environment
  • Proven track record in building, managing, and mentoring highly successful project teams
  • Fluent English is absolutely required for this global role, German or another language is a plus
  • Willingness to travel required
