In this position, you will:

  • Lead the core financial modelling sub-team within the Group IFRS Impact Assessment team
  • Lead all aspects of the development of the IFRS financial model to produce IFRS balance sheet and income projections including for the planning process
  • Produce customized analysis of IFRS accounting policy and parameter choices or scenario investigations
  • Closely cooperate and interact with Finance and Actuarial teams globally

About the Team


Economic Valuation & Methodology is part of Group Reporting within Group Finance. We maintain the company’s economic valuation frameworks and support the introduction of the new accounting standard IFRS at Swiss Re. The Group IFRS Impact Assessment team is a cross-functional team responsible for the production of quantitative calculations of balance sheets and projected income statements of the IFRS conversion. This enables clear advice and insights to be given to senior management and to the accounting policy workstream so that decisions on IFRS can be made with an understanding of the expected outcomes.


The position will be seconded to the Group IFRS Impact Assessment team until the closure of the IFRS roll in project in mid-2024. In this role, the candidate will work under the Head of IFRS Impact Modelling and will be the team leader for the core modelling sub-team. This will involve the leadership of the developers in the team that are located in Zurich and Bangalore, the development of the model code of our internal IFRS model developed on the Palantir Foundry platform and performing the valuation runs. This will also involve close collaboration with the team that is implementing the IFRS ledger system to ensure close alignment of results.


The work of the team is of critical relevance for the Group and for supporting the local IFRS teams globally. Output from the model, analysis, insights and advice will be regularly presented to a wide range of internal partners. The analysis performed will be of high importance in determining the future business and investment strategies of the company.


The position represents a senior role in this team and has strong visibility as a guiding specialist across the Group for IFRS impact assessment topics. There will be regular opportunities to present at senior management levels and in forums across the organisation.


In the role you will develop a deep understanding of Swiss Re’s business and the practical implementation of IFRS accounting.


About you

You would need to perform tasks with a high degree of autonomy, but also to collaborate with all partners to deliver on clearly attributed goals and objectives complete the role requirements.

Your profile:

  • Leadership experience in complex finance or actuarial functions
  • Insurance or reinsurance expertise
  • Outstanding analytical skills and attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture and to design solutions accordingly
  • Proficient in English - verbal & written
  • Outstanding communication skills - ability to clearly communicate to a wide range and experience levels of partners
  • Independently minded and critical - capable of analysing numbers critically, creating estimates, and drawing out relevant conclusions
  • Teammate and balanced personality, with an outstanding ability to lead, mentor and support team members and colleagues based in multiple offices
  • University degree, preferably in economics, finance, business administration or natural sciences. Actuarial background is a plus
  • Experience in programming in Python and preferably in PySpark. Understanding of data engineering
