The Position

Internship in Translational Ocular Toxicity

The Position

Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS) is a global function within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) which covers several research areas including Immunosafety and Investigative Safety. Our Laboratory is situated at the pRED Roche Innovation Center Basel and focuses on the establishment and evaluation of novel in vitro models for drug safety screening of the brain and eye, thereby enabling informed decisions to bring the best drugs to patients.

In this position you will:
  • Work with a Corneal Epithelial cell model for tolerability assessment of early drug candidates
  • Establish translational markers of corneal toxicity and investigate their translation into clinic based on tool compounds known to cause tolerability issues
  • expand the in vitro testing set up beyond acute eye-irritation testing towards "chronic" tolerability testing

Who You Are
  • You hold a Bachelor or Master degree in Ophthalmology or Neuroscience, Cell Biology, or a comparable education in Life Sciences.
  • You have good skills in molecular biology techniques, in vitro cell culture and microscopy techniques, ideally with 3D culture systems
  • You are self-motivated and have a strong interest in experimental cell biology, eager to learn how to use advanced analytical instruments
  • Previous experience with high-end software for data capturing and data analysis is a plus
  • You possess a strong team-spirit as well as ability to work independently with good planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral English skills

This is a temporary 9 month position with a desired starting date of April 2022.
