About The Role

This role is a phenomenal opportunity for you to work on hands-on projects with a tangible business impact. Together with a high-caliber and motivated international team, you will actively contribute to the formulation of our global economic (GDP, inflation, etc) and interest rate forecasts for the Group and support our client and public policy outreach. The role is a unique, broad and exciting professional growth opportunity and an excellent stepping stone within the company. Key Tasks And Responsibilities Include
  • Analyse global macroeconomic variables (e.g. GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, central banks, etc) and provide related forecasts for the major global economies. Closely monitor and assess economic, political and financial market developments
  • Design and improve models to further strengthen macroeconomic and financial market analysis
  • Support the company´s thought-leadership topics and client outreach by co-authoring publications (e.g. Swiss Re’s sigma, Economic Insights, etc) and preparing high-quality and visually appealing presentations
  • Support Group Chief Economist and Head Macro Strategy in various tasks (e.g. writing background notes, designing slides, some administrative tasks, etc)
About The Team

Group Economic Research and Strategy (GERS) is part of the Swiss Re Institute, and is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. GERS holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re’s capital allocation for both sides of the balance sheet. The team also drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance for the Group and helps shaping the policy dialogue and outcome. GERS is responsible for Swiss Re’s flagship sigma publication series.

GERS is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across the organization and externally. We are a truly international team located in Zurich, New York, Hong Kong and Beijing and collaborate closely with all of Swiss Re’s re/insurance business units and Group functions.

About You
  • Successfully completed university degree or equivalent in Economics or Finance. A degree from another field is also possible, though excellent working knowledge of Economics/Finance is expected
  • Initial experience in economic research, asset management or a related area is an advantage
  • Ability to break down, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required
  • Econometric and programming skills in one of the major statistical softwares/programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python, EViews) is a distinct advantage
  • Internationally focused and highly motivated with a can-do attitude; dedication to continuous learning and willingness to challenge and improve the status quo
  • Very agile, open-minded and curious personality with ability to work under tight timelines
  • Mature and proactive; showing a high degree of own initiative
  • Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment
