Primary Function Of Position

The Research Scientist will lead the development, implementation, and validation of advanced optical imaging methods for qualitative and quantitative surgical guidance. More particularly, he or she will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to investigate the future generations of surgical imaging vision systems using optical methods and help their translation toward preclinical and clinical validation. The Biomedical Engineer will develop innovative optical acquisition methods for advanced diffuse optical imaging using traditional methods (Monte Carlo modeling) and artificial intelligence methods (Deep Learning). His or her objective will ultimately be to find best compromise for practical implementations with optimal clinical performances.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of new advanced diffuse optical imaging methods for surgery
  • Investigate novel & innovative acquisition and processing methods using traditional and Artificial Intelligence approaches with an emphasis on usability and robustness
  • Develop a fine understanding of the interface between hardware, imaging methods, and processing of data for real-time surgical imaging
  • Influence design ideas and ways to innovate at the interface of engineering and surgery
  • Actively contribute to multidisciplinary translational and collaborative team of engineers, researchers and clinicians
  • Present the results of the work during internal meetings and international conferences
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
  • Minimum a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (preferred), Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Design, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Preferably 3 years minimum of experience in applied research or industry
  • Strong knowledge and experience in diffuse optics, light modeling and artificial intelligence
  • Eager to self-improve, gain knowledge and develop skills
  • Good level of English, spoken and written
  • Self-motivated and autonomous
