Electrical Design Technical Engineer (EN-EL-DDO-2021-66-LD)

Introduction

The Engineering Department (EN) pushes back the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Electrical Engineering (EL) group of the EN department, you will join the section of the Design and Documentation Office (DDO), which is responsible for delivering electrical designs for the group, as well as the database and documentation management of the continuously evolving transmission and distribution networks.

Functions

You will:

• Take responsibility for the design of large electrical projects such as but not limited to the design of
  • low and high voltage distribution networks;
  • lighting systems for buildings and external areas;
  • DC and UPS distribution systems;
  • earthing networks;
• Create design drawings and update existing ones using AutoCAD;
• Create cabling schedules and installation drawings;
• Update equipment information into CERN databases;
• Verify that designs are fully compliant with industry standards, safety rules, quality requirements and general CERN requirements;
• Cross-checking the designs of other projects;
• Provide a permanent support to the section by updating and improving quality standards.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electrical engineering or a related field.

Experience:

The candidate shall demonstrate experience in:

• A steering design role for large electrical projects;
• electrical design of HV and LV distribution systems;
• Working with electrical distribution equipment (switchgear, switchboards, protection relays, transformers, UPS systems, generators, battery chargers and inverters);
• Short circuit calculations, load flow analysis, design of distribution systems and general electrical circuit design;
• On-site installations in the fields of HV and LV distribution systems.

Technical competencies:

• Design and modelling of high-voltage electrical circuits and networks;
• Design and modelling of low-voltage electrical circuits and networks;
• Expert proficiency in AutoCAD, Dialux and Eleccalc LV design software (or similar SW packages).

Language skills:

Being fluent in either English or French and an undertaking to acquire the other language rapidly. Being able to speak both languages would be a benefit.

Employment Conditions

Contract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.

These functions require:

• Work in Radiation Areas.
• Interventions in underground installations.
• A valid driving licence is required.
• Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
• Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organization.
